    Current Closures of Southern IL DNR Sites

    •Due to widespread storm damage and flooding, the public needs to call any park in the South region before they visit.


    •Beall Woods State Park – Tuliptree is open and clear; White oak upland area is open, however the bottomland area is closed due to flooding; Ridgway is closed due to high water; Schneck is closed due to high water; Sweet Gum is closed due to high water.
    •Cache River State Natural Area -Section 8 Woods Boardwalk is closed until further notice. Cache River Wetland Center has been closed due to high water. Nature Fest scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled and rescheduled for June 4th. Much of Cache River State Natural Area is closed, due to the flooding in the lowland areas, the headquarters office at Belknap and Marshall Ridge access are open due to higher elevation and open road access, but this could change. For information and updates visitors should call the headquarters office at 618-634-9678.
    •Cave in Rock - The Cave In Rock State Park is closed. The Cave is completely underwater.
    •Dixon Springs - Rauschfuss Hill is closed until further notice.
    •Fort Massac – Fort Massac has been closed due to high waters.
    •Giant City State Park - The Giant City Equestrian Campground and trails will be closed indefinitely. Also the shower building will be closed due to lack of funds and use. Equestrian Campers are welcome to use the shower building in the Main Family Campground. Horses are not permitted in the Main Family Campground, though. Youth campground road has been closed due to high water over the creek. Shelter #2 has been closed due to water coming over the creek to the parking lot.
    •Golconda Marina – The marina is closed due to high water.
    •Horseshoe Lake – The site is currently closed due to flooding.
    •Mermet Lake - Mermet Lake is currently closed due to high water. Mermet Swamp Nature Preserve trail is still closed but expect to possibly have open within the next sixty days. The area is closed to all normal public traffic and fishing for the establishment of a waterfowl refuge. However, archery deer hunting and waterfowl hunting will be allowed during normal seasons.
    •Newton Lake – The small day use area North of the park shop is closed indefinitely due to storm damage.
    •Pyramid State Park – Denmark Unit is closed due to water on the road.
    •Rend Lake F & W – The road has been closed to the Bonnie South boat ramp, road and parking lot under water. The ADA boat docks have been closed at Waltonville Dam and Nason South boat ramps. The township road thru Ryder Bottoms is under water and closed.
    •Sahara Woods – This area remains closed until further notice.
    •Saline County – The access road to the park from Rt 145 is closed due to high water. The road from Equality is also closed due to high water, making the only access to the park through the back roads off of Rt 34. The park however remains open but part or most of the hunting area is completely under water.
    •Tunnel Hill State Trail - Tunnel Hill State Trail has been closed to public use. The trail and headquarters building will remain closed until floodwaters recede and IDNR officials have time to inspect and repair damaged areas to ensure public safety.
    •Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park – Sailboat Harbor boat ramps and parking areas are closed. The bike trail has sections under water and is closed until further notice. The Rend Lake Resort will remain open but two of the three boatels will need to be closed because of parking lot flooding. All boat ramps at resort are currently closed as a safety measure. Three of the five loops of the Class A campground are closed because roads are under water. Boat Ramp located within the Class A Campground is closed and under water. The primitive tent camping area is closed until further notice due to water across sites. The County Line Picnic area is closed until further notice due to flooding. Rend Lake Stables horse riding concession closed September 30, 2010.

    The Giant City equestrian campground and trails are closed indefinitely...as in forever or just not a set time for reopening?
