Rich it is, if you ever head there let me know and we can meet up but wait until it is warmer. LOL

If you come to this side of S IL also check out Burden Falls & Bell Smith Springs (they are only a couple miles apart).
These two places are especially cool during inclement weather days (IMO).

May want to also hit Glen O. Jones lake seeing how you may drive right past it, it's a small lake but again at the right time you can find some good shots.

Search these places on SILO to see some photo's others have posted from the above locations.

I don't know if they're going to get it fixed up from the storms last spring, but Giant City has some good opportunities.

I'm not familiar with the SW part of the state, though, know there are lots of great areas to photograph.

In addition to the places already mentioned, the cache river area / Heron Pond and Horseshoe Lake (Alexander county) are all very cool!

I've also been to Bell Smith Springs, certainly well worth the visit! But, not made it to Burden falls.

When I'm looking for someplace new to visit, I usually start with the DNR website then search flickr for representative pics to get a feel for the location.

Those are fantastic places! Burden falls is absolutely awesome during or after a good storm. I wouldn't pass up Indian Kitchen near Eddyville if I had time for the walk. We went during the winter, huge ice-cycles hanging from the bluffs above lusk creek.
