lifestudent55 02-21-2009, 13:46 Yeah, I'd been wondering what happened to you. I hope you catch that flathead too. Of course then it's bigger brother will be haunting your dreams. :D
SWAMPMAN 02-21-2009, 16:47 Wouldn't a big blue fill that dream also...? Either are good trophy's none the less good eats!
Hope you fulfill that goal, it is great to feel that tug of a huge fish.

lifestudent55 02-21-2009, 19:47 You know what they say about not posting pictures LaFore. Without pictures it's just another fish story.

Sounds like a "croc" to me!!! LOL, sorry man couldnt resist!
I'll be using live bait though, probably a fresh caught bluegill or a big sucker minnow...big bait = big fish....... hopefully
lifestudent55 02-22-2009, 09:45 My wife caught her 30+ inch channel cat on a small minnow fishing for crappies and white bass. To catch that 40 pounder though, I think you will need some bigger bait, and maybe a bigger boat.

eatmordonuts 02-23-2009, 13:37 thats most likely how it will go with me, fish my buns off for this big fish and will finally hook him while fishing for bluegills or something!

We have spoke of this before G, this year I call you on it! I got a place on the Mississippi that I KNOW will at least give up a good catfish dinner, and a big boy is just as likely there as anywhere!
Crab is a good place for cats....We caught a ton out there before as well as Rend Lake around these parts....:D
We made a new trot line and never put it out yet but wouldn't mine puttin one out at crab or even a neck at rend lake and camping up there one weekend......
eatmordonuts 02-24-2009, 11:53 Ive heard that the average catfish in Rend is fairly healthy, around 6lbs. Is there any decent spots there to fish from shore. I have never been out there, but know its not to far from me.
gretchensteele 02-24-2009, 12:05 Eatmore - I know it would be a bit of drive for you.. but maybe some night you can come tightline the river with me... :)
eatmordonuts 02-24-2009, 12:11 YES!!! I would love that!

The numbers are great but the average size seems to be dropping for channels (2lbs=great eaters) but the 10 lbers that buckle poles are less common for me the last 3 or 4 years. Any cat over 4 lbs I would throw back anyhow, just don't taste so good.
Seems everytime I was on the lake last year I would run into a pontoon jugger. For bank fishing try the Casey Fork or Big Muddy subinboundment dams.
DetectDave 02-24-2009, 14:45 Scott, I think I might be able to hook us up by the Cape bridge. Coupla young pups I know fish there exclusively for flats.
eatmordonuts 02-24-2009, 15:22 That would be fantastic Dave! I love that river (One bardge carries enough wheat to make 1.5 million loaves of bread!), and it sure would be nice to hang out, being I missed this whole last fall.
DetectDave 02-24-2009, 15:45 Yes it would. I'm up to my azz in alligators until the 1st of June w/ work but maybe on a weekend.
eatmordonuts 02-24-2009, 17:27 When do they spawn down here, used to not get much action in Nebraska till May, the big ones didnt start showing up till into June
eatmordonuts 02-26-2009, 09:23 I dreamt about him again last night.... My gosh he was beautiful! He lives in the river...he's waiting for me....
eatmordonuts 04-01-2009, 18:46 I know he's still out there...taunting me! I'm gearing up for him though, New powerline on the big poles! Big ol' narly circle hooks... yessiree, I'm coming!
DetectDave 04-01-2009, 19:30 Herrre kitty kitty kitty..lol
gretchensteele 04-01-2009, 20:10 kitty..kitty..kitty...
I think we need to throw together a SILO catfishing night along the river ...
make a little fire.. set up our tight lines..take along a snack and beverage or two.. and kitty,kitty,kitty...:D
I haven't had much luck on the river below Carlyle....
Sounds like fun though.:D
eatmordonuts 04-03-2009, 11:37 I overheard a couple fellows talking yesterday evening about the river below Carlyle, was saying it was good for big flats when the water was running high from the dam..... I dunno, but I put it on my list of places to check out.
