Do swivels effect the effectiveness of fishing lures? I always use a fisherman's knot. I have had people tell me I'm wasting valuable fishing time. I have herd others say people who use them don't know how to fish . Whats your opinion?I use them with hooks like on my catfish pole and with bobbers for the kids.

I used to use a lot of swivels and never stopped me from catching fish. But i tie most lures on now just for the fact that i retie alot due to frays in the line or whatever. The swivels are handy and on some crankbaits withought the splitrings they give better action.

I use them with snelled hooks when bait fishing. That way if a fish swallows the hook and is a keeper I just swap hooks (with leader) without having reach into its stomach to get the hook out (till I'm home cleaning the catch). They're also good for inline spinners because you don't twist the line quite as much.

Great question

I think snap swivels hooked directly to a bait is a bad way to go. It effects lure movement according to design.

On a snelled hook I can see it, but wouldn't do it.

Barrel swivels on spoons, spinners, Carolina rigs is acceptable to minimize line twist..

I think swivels are a lazy mans tool who only wants to tie one knot.

i heard that there is a new knot that can be almost like a swivel and its made to tie crankbaits now using swivels is a good thing on crankbaits but i never do i can never get the (I'm an idiot for swearing)(I'm an idiot for swearing)(I'm an idiot for swearing)(I'm an idiot for swearing) things open so i said hell with it and done away with them but if you need alot of action and if thats what they want then i will use them

The Trilene knot is good for crankbaits.

The only time I use them is when running long line crankbaits trolling. When running planer boards or downriggers, it makes it quite helpful to get the bait off and on quickly before you have a major cluster^^%*^ in the boat w/ tangled lines and hooks.
