I really wish that ice would break up by this weekend.

If they would run a barge up it that would help. Right around the port of Evansville it was open because they where shuffling barges around the mill, but right below the bridge it closed back up. I remember when they had the coal dock open they would run barges up there. One year it was frozen like it was today and here come this tow with one barge. It would slide way up onto the ice about half way and then break through. Before it got there you could hear the cracks forming in the ice shooting up river our way. Once it got there the sound of the ice shattering was awesome. And to see those 8-9 inch slabs of ice flipping everywhere reminded me of the pics of the huge ice breakers of the great north..There was some chunks that had been broken and refroze they where about 5-6 inches thick so it might take a while to go away. I did step out on it and it started to crack, maybe that cause it was just right next to the edge but I chickened out and didn't go out any further.
