Good to have you on board. I'd like to learn a bit more about the shrooms we have around here that are edible. What's out there now???

if you look at the thread just before this.....chicken polyfores are up right now and they are edible...very similar to hen of the woods in taste style etc.

Chanterelles, hedgehogs, and puffballs haven't started yet...they are usually a little later

If you don't have a good field guide, one that I recommend is the DK Smithsonian Books Series for Mushrooms. ISBN # 0-7894-8986-4

The best way to learn the edibles is to hang out with another shroomer...that being said there are folks around here that will eat some that if not cooked correctly will make you ill...

Yeah best is to find an old timer to teach the way... problem is there ain't too many old timers left. Least the woodsman ones. Like Rancid Crabtree, if'n you ever read McManus... That's funny shtuff.

My personal ol timer was Scotty Umberger back in PA. Good guy, lived by his own rules. (I may have adopted a few. LOL)

I like takin pics of different ones as well, there are some interesting looking fungi out there...
