When I was going to college at SIUE I often drove out to the chain of rocks bridge where people would fish for walleye and saugers on the downstream side of the chain of rocks. It is a huge rock dike/dam that goes all the way across the river just under the surface. makes some big rapids. I believe it is there to create a pool big enough for St. Louis's water intake. I myself have never fished for walleye, but I am interested in making the trip up there one of these days to try and catch some. my question is this: has anyone fished this spot? what type of bait/equipment do you use? and what is the best time of year? Seems to me I would see them there year round (water level permitting).

About now until June.

Chartruese crank baits
White crank baits
Jig and a Little George
Tandem Jigs

Medium-heavy rod
I usually use firewire or the likes because of the rocks and the teeth.

There's other ways, but that will get you some if they're there.

Chester IL!! Welcome! Last I heard you better pack some heat up there , and not for the cold, and don't let your car out of sight. They have been having problems with the riff raff busting into cars.
