Went out Saturday morning hoping the change in the weather made some deer move. Saw a big deer take off from under my stand when I arrived right before daylight, but couldn't tell what it was. Around 7:15 a real nice 8 point walked through at 12 yards but couldn't get a shot. I sat there for about 45 minutes and contemplated getting out of my stand to go get my decoy. Took the chance and placed it 5 yards in front of my stand. Not even 20 minutes later a real nice ten point comes out of the thick stuff at 25 yards. He took 5 steps, saw the decoy and stopped dead in his tracks. I saw I had a window through some twigs about the size of a pie plate and took the shot. Made it through the hole and hit him a bit high but caught the lungs. He went 50 to 60 yards and went down. What a great hunt! I'm glad the 8 never gave me a shot. Just goes to show a little change in strategy can pay off big time. Check out the video of the recovery.

SWEET !

Congrats !

Next time try to hold back a little on the excitement, camera man (was that you Bob) was more pumped then you were. LOL
No need for a harvest pin now, you have something better allot better. :D

Maybe thats been my problem I need to get my decoy out so the boys have something to play with.
Did you have any kind of scent on it ?

I used Lowe's Whitetail Scent. Hung a wick right on the decoy's hindparts. The scent is made in Landisburg Pa. Kind of a local thing. Not real big. It's called fatal distraction. I don't know if the buck had time to get a whiff or not. I think it was more of a sight distraction. I use a Renzo's decoy and had the adjustable tail in the receptive position. Thanks for the congrats and wish you the best of luck on your own big buck. By the way I was very excited. My brother just tends to show his emotion a little more. I'm a crying on the Inside kind of guy...

Well I WAS excited for him, it has been 14 years since he got a buck, and it was his 1st bow buck. Bummer of the day was, I shot an 8 pointer at 0720 (bout the same time bro shot) went to get his deer, and came back up to track mine. Thing jumped up about 60 yards from where I shot, and ran like the wind. Tracked the 20 whole drops of blood to the road where he left our property. I must have hit a bit front in the shoulder??? Looked like a goot shot when I made it. I hate that, it really bums me out. I don't think the deer will be too bad off, but it still sucks. I've got a bunch of deer, but only have ever wounded 2. They stick in your mind... I guess that's why they call it hunting, and not killing....
