Today I broke a pole, and on nothing fancy like a giant bass.:( I loaded my tube, poles out the back, and shoved off. There was a pretty good weed mat on the bank and I didn't notice the tip of my fly rod was buried while I was kicking backwards. !!!SNAP!!! Expletive-expletive- EXPLETIVE.:cool:

It was a Pflueger 8wt and had served me well. It has been a good while since busting a rod.

HOWEVER I did come home and found this listed only hours before... YES>>> this will be my 3rd St. Croix fly rod.

I've got a St. Croix 5wt that I really like. I bought an Orvis 5wt a few years ago and while I like it the St. Croix just seems so much lighter, more flexible and easier casting than my Orvis.
My next one will probably be a St. Croix as well.

Well now I'll have 2 of the St. Croix Imperials, and they are good. But if you think they are light, get a Legend Ultra. I got a 3wt in that. Dream pole. I can't afford such nice rods anymore. I put out $300 for that one. and now they have the Legend Elite--- even more $$$.

I also have a St. Croix Imperial. It's a 8'6" 6 weight. I use it for bass and throwing large streamers for trout. I enjoy it thoroughly. There have been a few times now I've been glad I left the lighter pole in the truck, as it has handled a couple large trout. The price was right at 100 beans too. And by the way Bob the last pole you broke wasn't that long ago. I remember cause it was my 7'9" Orvis 5 weight.:mad:
