View Full Version : Beaglers??
Any rabbit hunters on here? I used to raise beagles but quit in the 80's when I started bowhunting. Gettin a little older, harder to climb the ridges and trees, real hard to drag em out. So I thought I'd look int getting a couple of pups to chase around. Any ideas??
I'm the same way. We used to hunt allot with them when I was growing up then quit when I got busy with other stuff. We tried once a couple of years ago without the dogs...heck with that! Half the fun and 5 times the work! :D
Birdhunter1 01-06-2009, 16:31 I know of a guy near Murphysboro that used to raise beagle dogs, if I can figure out his name again I'll find out if he's still doing it. Other than that I may know of one other guy who has eagle dogs. I grew up with a pair of beagles and we had/have alot of rabbits on our place, a guy across the road had beagles and he took me once and got me hooked on hunting with dogs. What a monster he created!
Yep, me too. We had a lot of fun chasing them dogs. Had some that I think would hunt themselves to death for me. It was good to interact with the dogs and share the harvest and fun with others. If I keep talking and thinking about it, I'll have a couple before long.
mikejulie 01-07-2009, 07:08 Good morning. My dad and I still rabbit hunt. In the last year we purchased 4 beagles. We have one male and 3 females. It just seems now that we have the dogs were not seeing as many rabbits as we did in past years. If any one knows a good spot or wants to go along just give me a holler. Have a great day. Happy New Year!
What area you in mike?
Man, we got a place up at my uncles hog farm. I am here to tell you that many times I watched them dogs chase rabbits until the dog fell over exhausted!
Went into this old hog lot that was grown over with multifloral rose and other brush. Climbed on top of a lean-to. Two dogs chasing about 10 rabbits! :D Punched out my 4 right there. :D Good times man....
mikejulie 01-08-2009, 14:45 I live in Collinsville but have a 40 acre plot in Caseyville that I rabbit hunt. I think wild dogs are removing more rabbits than I am. Our male and 1 female are pretty good dogs the other 2 are usually just along for the ride. It sounds like your spot beats out our spot even on a good day.

mikejulie 01-08-2009, 16:19 Sounds like you and I have one thing in common. Every time I turn around my beagles are laying around in the garage with my wife feeding them treats.

Just thought I would introduce Ellie, Molly, and Daisy. I think you can tell who did all the work today. She is the smallest but the fastest.

Now most places I've lived they'd call them dogs "sooner dogs" cause they'd sooner eat or sleep than anything else.:D
wolfgang 01-25-2009, 19:49 My uncle had hunting beagles once and never got much use out of them, they just have them as pets anymore.
Back in the 70 s we raised beagle. Finished 5 fld champion beagles. I also trained them in a 5 acre enclosure stock with wild and san wan rabbits. Home club was Belcair Beagle club in Coulterville. Spent alot of time there.

Yes he lives down the road from me.I don't know his name but them dogs bark all the time.
heavy5256 03-22-2009, 11:20 there's a fellow that lives in wilmington IL that raises them .He field trials them. His name is John Troley.I'm sure you can get his number from the phone listings on the internet. If you have a good beagle, there isn't anything more fun then hunting over a good beagle!!!!!
