The College??? huntrz 12-21-2008, 21:29 Yes and Yes. we were headin' down South today and I saw that building off tp the South, had to turn around and check it out, here's a little history on Shiloh College On January 1, 1836 trustees met at the home of John B. Burke, near the present-day village of Shiloh Hill. They met for the purpose of drawing up articles of agreement for a school and meeting house. The first building was a 26' x 20' one story building with walls of well hewn timber. This building was used until 1856 when a frame schoolhouse was built. In April of 1839, the residents around Shiloh Hill agreed to purchase eighty acres for a school. By November of that year, they had met with and petitioned the Legislature to incorporate an institution known as "Shiloh College". A notable fact is that Civil War General John A. Logan and his brother Tom recieved a part of their early education at this school. They arrived at the school when they were 16 and 14. They spent three years studying spelling, arithmetic, grammer, and Latin. In March 1881, Wm. F. Brinkman and Brothers began construction of the present building. They used bricks burned at the sit for construction. almost immediately after construction, the first floor was leased by District #1 in Randolph County. The upper story was to be utilized for any purpose that was advantageous for the people. A community grade school was held here until 1954, when it was consolidated into the Trico School District. The Shiloh College Trustees continued to keep the building available for community events, but by 1964 only one person remained active on the board. In 1998 the Randolph County Historical Society agreed to assume ownership and in April of 2004 the Shiloh College Foundation was created to work to restore and preserve this piece of history. You mean the government didn't steal taxes to pay for it???? Imagine that... Bet they weren't Over Budget either. tsheets 12-22-2008, 10:38 Did you use a lensbaby for this shot? gretchensteele 12-22-2008, 10:40 Did you use a lensbaby for this shot?
