I know this is not about Southern Illinois, but thought it was interesting to see what the northern half is doing for fun...
I was on the North side of Chicago yesterday and a friend told me the brown trout were biting off the rocks of Lake Michigan, I said "I'm There!" went down to a rock pier, didn't get there til about 7 pm, only 8 guys fishing I didn't catch any, although I'm not sure I would have been able to land a fish like this with my little 5 1/2' spinning rod spooled with 6 lb. test, any way only one guy caught any fish, he caught about a 3 lb. Coho and this big Skamania Steelhead, it weighed 15 lbs.! they're using 7' rods spooled with 8 - 10 lb. test and throwing little cleos & castmaster spoons, I'll have the right rig next time. didn't see any Brown trout caught but the guy next to me said he caught a 5 lb. brownie the day before! heck if I catch a 2lb. Brown I'll probably get it mounted!
