View Full Version : Central 08 season
Well tomorrow brings us another year of waterfowling for all us folks who are north of I-70. We have the blind brushed, decoys out and anticipating a good season. This is the twenty-fifth year of hunting with the same guys who are also retired ISP. Looking forward to beautiful mornings mother nature has in store for us as well as some brisk north winds, remember enjoy the hunt and not the kill...
A report from a few friends of mine who hunt in the north zone who advise they are having good success on gadwall, mallards, pintails and wood ducks. The early weather front has pushed more birds down earlier than normal. The goose numbers are up as well but mainly shortstopping at the Wisconsin/Illinois line.
Now I am going to have to balance the hunting time between duck blind and deer stand.... decisions/decisions. Good luck to all! ;)
gretchensteele 10-24-2008, 19:00 Have a great start to the season tomorrow! Wishing you all a wonderful morn..
I also hunt tomorrow morning. Last week for the youth hunt, my buddy's son killed 2 Woodies and 1 Gadwall.

Good Point ISP
I have to travel up to Lexington IL tomorrow for our last football game. It is bitter sweet that it is over. I will be heading up to the Hardin Area tomorrow night to meet up with my guys for Sunday hunt.
Good luck boys!
Any luck? We killed seven, 2 Woodies and 5 Teal.
fireduck 10-25-2008, 16:05 We killed 3 at Horseshoe SP. Mallard, woodie, and a shov. My buddy has a blind, not one of the great ones but it a spot.
A few of the blinds did real good, some I saw got a lot of shooting. Maybe some new ring necks, not ,many mallards to be seen.
Clear skies and nice SW wind today, not much action around the lake (Highland) ended up with mixed bag of mallards, hen pintail (darn wanted that bull) and gadwall. Most action was early then slowed with the clear skies. Although did have ham, pancakes and scrambled eggs...:D See what happens in the morning. Next couple of days we should enjoy a brisk N-NW wind...
SWAMPMAN 10-26-2008, 16:46 Hey waterfowlers out there: Larry Reid on AM1570 talked Duck Hunting today on his show. He loves to hunt waterfowl.
Tune in next week ISP2443, old34 and FullDraw he is going to interview more folks and you should be able to pick up his broadcast where you live.
I don't hunt waterfowl but enjoy his show regardless! Check it out next Sunday.

fireduck 10-26-2008, 19:42 think they will hold up in central intill the end of next month.
Just as long as my Wood Ducks don't push out of here.
John Q Public 10-27-2008, 09:50 We got a handful of woodies on Saturday and one Mallard on Sunday.
I did get to see a lot of birds, a bit of high shooting, and my ears are still ringing from all the highballin' hail callin' reverberating from from other blinds in our vicinity.

Sounds like you are ready for the openner down south. On that lake with the Mcdonalds:D
Today was much like yesterday nice NW winds and some high fliers southbound. Most birds didn't make a stop over and continued on their journey, did have a couple of groups work and managed some blue/green wing teal and a couple of mallards. Wind supposed to stay up but clear skies next few days. Saw a few groups of specks also headed south.
Now Kyle, why you gotta go and bring that crap over here?hehe
RiverBottomBowHunter 10-28-2008, 06:50 This is my first full year waterfowlin', lets see how it goes.
We were seeing quite a few birds on sat. and sun. The flooded pits around us were doing a lot of shooting. But, they had corn standing, we had mud.
We shot 4 GW teal, and a limit of goose on sat. If we could hit birds flying 200 mph, we would of had more.
Sun, more of the same. 5 Gw teal, drake mallard. Missed a bull pintail. It landed in the spread. After 20 min. it got up and we all missed him.
Mon. morning- most of the little birds disappeared. We still shot 2 ringnecks, 2 mallards, 1 hooded merganser.
We did learn on our first weekend that these little birds sound like jets going by for a reason.
Good Luck Everybody

Full Draw 10-28-2008, 10:25 We went up to the Hardin/Stump Lake area. Saw a TON of birds Sunday night in the high winds. Ended up with 6 Woodies, 2 Gadwall, 1 Ringneck, and 1 Greenhead. It was great to get out in to the water again. We had our first casualities with our boat!
