My buddy over by Mt Vernon reports that he shot over 20 Longnose Gar this week over 15# with one at 24 and 25#. Gar good to eat if you might mind the job of using tin snips to clean. All white meat and no bones.

I've heard that before. Is it you aim 4-6 inches below what you are shooting?

Me and a staff member of mine were out at Rend Lake at the spillway, there are alot of 3 foot gar hanging out there and one monster 6 footer that swam up and was eating everything in sight, wish i had my bow. We ended up with catchin about 15 Cats over 5lbs and around 20 Drum over 5lbs each, was alot of fun but cant believe i forgot my bow at home.

I will be at Rend this weekend looking for that 6 footer, which will be the current state record. Maybe get a few Bigheads in the spillway to. A lot of rough fish where taken this week in central IL and two different Illinois Bowfishers club members went to Ky Lake to shoot below the dam and one boat got 36 and one 46 bigheads. BIgest was just a bit over 50#. ONe boat got 3 paddlefish. You can shoot two a day now in Ky.

That takes some good shooting to get a water snake.

How do you usually prepare drum? I've heard a lot of folks say they weren't any good, but they're wrong. I fixed a pan of gaspergou (the coon@$$ name for drum) ettoufee last year. http://www.realcajunrecipes.com/recipes/cajun/gaspergou-etouffee/627.rcr

My mom and her family are from Louisianna they cook everything cajun style and I may add its all great too. this time i gave my fish to a guy that wasnt catchin anything that was about 10ft. from me and it was his b-day so i let him have the drum cause he asked if he could have a couple, gave them all to him he was happy.

I've heard that before. Is it you aim 4-6 inches below what you are shooting?

Since no one actually answered this HC, here goes. It depends on how deep the fish is and at what angle you are shooting. If the fish is right at the surface, aim right at it. Also if the fish is straight down, you aim right at it.
Everywhere in between you aim some amount below the target.

The best rule of thumb I can give you is to imagine a fish just below the fish you're shooting, and aim at the imaginary fish.

Hope that's helpful, but I really hope you already went out and figured it out for yourself. :D That is really the best way.
