Is anyone else going out this weekend for the central opener? I am probably going to do some field hunting north of Edwardsville. The early cold weather should have moved some birds into the area. Early reports from the north zone have been good so far so hopefully we will have a good season this year. I am also ready to get the dog out to do some upland hunting. Has anyone ever tried the Peabody area?
Jeez, I guess duck season is here for the central zone already. Time flies. As much as I like hunting duck, my focus right now is in the deer stand. Another great thing about the south zone, I can keep on the deer, until well after the rut before I start lugging decoys.:D
As for Peabody, there are some quail in there, and it gets hunted. Bummer is, most of the prime cover is on the side that closes Nov. 1, and quail doesn't come in until the 12th I think. I was still hunting last week and had not one, but 2 heart attacks from bursting coveys. Nothing like creeping along as quietly as you can the suddenly a small explosion goes off at your feet.
What for dog you got JES22? I have a lab for duck, and she's good for a phesant hunt or 2 out in KS every year. There a buch of woodcock around a bit later in the season. May want to try that.
I might have to come out and give the woodcock a try then. They are already in season. They should also be moving down with the weather. I have a lab and a shorthair pointer. The lab is starting to get a little old so I am probably going to sit him out more for upland and just let him do the waterfowl thing. The pointer is younger and can run all day.
Just wondered if you went out, and if so, how you did?
Nope, too warm to be out running after the dog. I stayed home and finished up some yard work so that is out of the way for the cooler weather. I should have gone fishing. I am going to try to get out this weekend. Regular upland opens and there is supposed to be a lot of ducks down already. Unfortunately, it is supposed to warm up again this weekend. I don't like hunting in warm weather. I might just try getting in some doves at Chouteau Island.

Well good luck. Let us know how you do.
 Look out for dead people at Chouteau Island.
