A friend of mine just moved to southern Mo and has invited me down to go hog hunting. He said its almost wide open as far as the type of guns you can use and limits. I was checking into the cost for out of state permit and if there is any public land to hunt near there. I found the site above and though some of you guys would like to see how they roll. If anybodys got any info on some of the questions I posted above I'd appreciate you passing it on. Thank You. Fun..

Looks like a job for SILO AR owners club...

I know of three of us that have an AR, but if I go I am packing my Marlin 30-30, yeah my AR could put more lead into a charging boar but the 30-30 would be a better knock em down round than the .223

Pages 30 and 31 refer to hunting feral hogs.

On page 31 it says a permit is not required to hunt feral hogs except during deer and turkey seasons. Does that mean you don't need any kind of license? On page 30 it says if you see a feral hog to shoot on sight. I think that's doable.

Adam has been over for em... You DO NOT need a tag or any sort of license to hunt em. (Unless you go during deer season.) You can bait em, trap em then shoot em, whatever. Take as many as you want. There is PLENTY of public ground to hunt them on, and if you ask I don't think any land owner would have a problem w/ you taking feral hogs off their ground.

I've said it before... I think it would be fun for a SILO gang to go after em...

Hey guys, I hog hunt ALOT!!!

I hunt Kentucky, Texas and Florida for hogs and will tell you that baiting is the way.

Recommendations:

Florida we use citrus fruits, cut them in 3rds or so and put them in a black trash bag, put the bag in the sun a few days to a week. Go to where hogs have been rooting and dump them out. If hogs are in the area they will come in quick.

Texas we use feeders with corn. Ground feeds with molasis, fruit juices. When you use an automatic feeder they will get used to the sound of corn spinning off of the spreader and come in.

Kentucky we use corn, wheat, soybeans and let them ferment in 55 gallon drums with water in it. Basically it rots, they love it.

Keep in mind it will take time to bait them up but it is worth it. Now if you want to eat them shoot sows or boars upto 150 pounds. I prefer hogs under 100 to eat but they do not get the tusk for a mount.

This is Kentucky with the sour mash mix.

Now if you all are going to stick or shoot some hogs in Missouri, Ft Leonardwood was open to the public for hog hunting years back. My grandparents old farm was more or less out the back gate and we did not see any hogs. Let me know if you are going and I would be in for a trip anywhere to stick a hog or two.

I have been hog hunting in MO several times No permit needed except for deer and turkey season no limit on how many you can take. The only problem is they are very hard to find on public ground. I have only seen them once and was for a brief second. I tried baiting used corn and beer mixed together and let it sour. the other thing that helps alot in Mark Twain National forest go to the conservation office and talk with the biologist they will be a big help and point out area's where there is sign and where they have bait stations at. There is a guy in Mo his job is to hunt them I use to have his email got it from biologist's and he will tell you were they are seeing signs. The latest place if i have heard from is Bell Mountain area that is having alot of sign and some people killing them

good luck

Sounds like some good advise. Thanks. I really don't know that much about them but I sure would like to go. Maybe camp an extended weekend.

One more thing that drives them absolutely insane but not the best environmentally is to dig a hole a couple feet deep, fill it with corn soaked in diesel. No clue why they like it but they do, now I have personally never done this but it is used.
