Gonna put my new Marlin XL7 in .270 to work and see what happens. Debunk 09-08-2008, 19:51 Yup, I is a true Yote hunter. Starts many years ago with some neighbors and we used dogs. Then after a couple years of getting close we upgraded from taking stands to moving from place to place with trucks ( we kinda looked like we were hunting escaped prisoners). This is what we did during he day. At night we hand called foxes. Then the posse grew too large and I stepped away from it. A couple years after leaving and going away farmers started getting upset as some wild ones in the bunch were destroying property with trucks and 3,4 wheelers. I stayed away a couple years then decided to do it the right way. Calling Coyotes. Its fun and farmers welcome calm professional hunters who they can trust. I walk into the areas I plan to hunt to insure not to scare away coyotes. I camo into fence rows, stumps, hillside, etc. Its more of being a sniper mentality. I prefer hand calls and have about a dozen of them. I have 1 electronic call and it works well and have since built my own electronic call from an MP3 player and an amplified speaker. It allows me to download individual free calls of all animals as well as have a sequence of calling. I use a 22-250 with a 6-24X scope and am sighted in 2 inches high at 250 yards. On my hip is a 357 magnum if I miss one and it gets to close in to swing and find him with the big gun. When I go to thick areas I use a 10 Ga 3 inch magnums. The only thing that stops me from doing better each year is work. Work takes up a lot of my time but it does buy the equipment for me to use so I don't complain too much. wolfgang 09-08-2008, 22:11 If you reload you can make some hot 100gr loads really cheap that barely drop even after 250 yards. Debunk 09-08-2008, 22:19 I currently shoot Winchester 45 grain Jacketed Hollow Point which is rated per manufacturer at 4000 FPS. For me thats plenty fast. http://www.winchester.com/products/catalog/cfrdetail.aspx?symbol=USA222502&bn=4&type=42 |
