fungus. What does mowing the fencerow do? I have a small piece of property in central illinois (4 acres) that i am heading to this weekend for reasons other than hunting, but i'm bringing my shotgun along anyway in case i see any that might make it worht while. i'm interested in this fence row mowing if that would help. My field is 4 acres of unmowed grass (used to be a pasture for llamas) It has one long fence row and one long tree row

We drove over to Pit 3 yesterday noon time to watch the "fun" for a little bit. It was hotter than hades, the sunflowers were sparse, and there were about 100 vehicles between the 2 fields.

That is too many people for me to enjoy myself, and have to worry about the dogs too...

Coalhog, the mowing will put the weed seed on the ground... where the dove can get at em. If you plant sunflower in there and mow it about 2 weeks prior to the season, they WILL be there....

We heard a lot of shooting at Pit 3 yesterday. It sounded almost like a firing range there was so much shooting going on.

None. Was out at peabody behind youth lake at noon. About 30 guys. Stayed for only 1 hour. Only 6 doves was kill in that hour so it wasn't worth staying out in that heat. I did catch a tan though,,,,

Called Washington County today and no doves there either. The ranger said they had 28 guys yesterday and only 21 birds were killed. I'll wait about a week and try them again...

HC, you could get a better kill ratio behind the building where I work on base. Every time I walk out a bunch of doves take off from the tree next to the building. I doubt they'd let you hunt there though. Too close to the big birds.

HighCountry, I was out at Washington County and there wer very few birds. I stayed 3 hours and didn't get any. It sure was hot and there's no shade.

I got 7 from earlier in the morning though. Great time.
