This is a great book from a IL bow hunter, Don Higgins.
I dont get into reading AT ALL but this one kept my attention.
Here is a link to an interview of Don and I will also provide a link to where you can buy his book, its worth every penny IMO.

that name sounds familair. would he have been on any hunting shows or something or what books has he written
I met Don at the Illinois Deer Classic and bought the book, he writes an occasional story for North American Whitetail, and I've always liked his stories.
This book gets my recommendations also, I couldn't put it down. It really hits home for me, there is so much hype on TV showing these giant bucks being killed and thats all fine as long as its fair chase, but it may be on a 10,000 acre ranch in texas that gets little hunting pressure, that's not the way my hunting is, I hunt a small tract of private ground with alot of pressure on surrounding property from locals that shoot everything that walks by to fill their cousins, uncles and nephews tags, and I occasionally hunt hunt public ground, this book, "hunting in the real world" has some very good hunting information, get it, read it, live it!
Don lives over near Mattoon Illinois, so he is a "Local Southern Illinois Boy" that's good enuf reason to buy his book, plus he is a sincerely humble guy.

that name sounds familiar. would he have been on any hunting shows or something or what books has he written
Read the link I gave of his interview it will answer your questions and Huntrz is correct Don writes articles for NAW as well as a few others magazines.
He is along time member of Illinois Bowhunters Society and that is how/where I got to know him a little bit via the IBS forum and e-mail.
You wont find a more dedicated ethical hunter. IMO
Right, Lynn. LOL !
NAW is prob where i heard him before i always read those
Duane is right about Don's book in my opinion.
This is a must read for all serious bowhunters.
Like everything I read about hunting, I usually don't agree or follow, everything I read. BUT that being said, I really think Don has some good methods & theories on hunting mature whitetails.
Don has also done a lot to help out Illinois bowhunters over the years & that counts for a lot in my book. :)
Don's book made me think about a lot of things I had never caught onto. It made me alter some of my hunting strategies.
I will be rereading it this summer to brush up or see if I missed anything the first time. :)
