Thought we could have a thread where everyone could weigh in on fishing lines they have tried.

Personally I have always used Stren or Berkely 10-12 lb mono, but I recently purchased some Spiderwire Stealth. Here are some pro's and con's from my personal experience with it.

Spiderwire Stealth 20 lb (6lb diameter):

Pro's: Excellent "feel"
Very little or no line memory
Good knot strenth for a braided line
Good casting distance
Very limp for a braided line
Very good overall strength

Con's: Prone to backlashes like any braid. (You must have your magnetic
drag set just right)
Kind of noisy if your rod has metal line guides
More expensive than your typical mono

So far I would recommend it due to the superior feel. You won't miss even the slightest nibble.

I've only used Trilene since I was able to afford buying my own line. For spinning gear the XL is the way to go. I also use the Vanish floro Berkley puts out. I have a few Berkley rods as well.. the Performa series.

I guess you could say I'm a Berkley fan LOL.

Now if you want to get into fly lines, that's another ball of wax...

I've used stren, trilene and many others over the years. Stren is a good line, this year i tried the yo-zuri hybrid and so far I am really impressed with it. I got 20lb for my topwaters and jigs and 12lb for most others. The 20lb is super tough and doesn't fray as easy as alot of others that i have used. I still have some stren and berkley on my lil crappie rods, but for bass this year so far I'm LOVING the yo-zuri.

Stren is about the best line ive used and always have a spool of it. I have recently tryed out Suffix and it is not that bad. Prefer stren over it. If anyone is interested in some really good 6 or 8lb test line, should try a brand called Triple Fish. They make a camoflauge looking line that is superb. Used it all the time for trout fishing and light tackle bass fishn and never had a problem with it.

How heavy you guys you guys fish is crazy to me. To me 10 or 12 lb line is HEAVY... I've always been a light or ultra light guy. For bass 6 lb is as light as I go usually 8. I have some small ultra light and micro lights that I use 4 lb on.

I agree for the most part. A lot of people probably use a heavier line than they need. When your pitching or flipping in heavy cover, though, it does pay off to have a heavy line.

i have 10lbs on my spinng reels, and 12 on my baitcaster, i think it is better 2 use heaveir line when fishing around stick-ups and such

i usually have 10 or 12 on which i found has been best but i need a little lighter line since most of my fishing is with soft plastics

Used PLine CXX 10lb moss green for the first time over the weekend. Caught a lot of bass and the line was still in perfect shape at the end of the day. I'll have to say I was very impressed with this one.

Pros: Decent price
Very strong and durable
not much memory

Cons: For some reason I couldn't get a clinch knot to hold. As soon as I
would pull it tight the line would just pull through (and yes, I was
tying it right), but a polomar knot did the trick.

Used Berkley Transition 4lb last weekend. Caught roughly 70 trout. Seemed to work well since trout can be scared off easily if they see your line. Never had a line break.

Pros: Low visibility
Great strength

Cons: Somewhat stiff
Price. Roughly 15 bucks a spool.

Great stuff if you want to pay the money.

10 lbs. line???   You may as well use steel cable!

<<This coming from a guy who pretty much only trout fishes and anything over 4 lb test is too big>>

My vote is for Maxxima lo-vis green 3 lb test.

The best and toughest line I have ever used for bass is Trilene Big Game Green. I spool 12 pound on my baitcasters, 20 pound on my flippin' stick, and 10 lb on my spinning rod that I use for fishing tubes and small jigs. I use 8 lb Trilene XL on my small crankbait spinning rod.

Fireline is awesome for trolling. I used to use it below KY Lake and Barkley Lake dam trolling for sauger and stripers. You can feel every little tick of the bottom/fish strike with that stuff...ultrasensitive.

Another good line that I have recently tried is Rapala. I bought some 6lb for my ultralights and it has no memory whatsoever and is exceptionally tough too.

I'm weak. I use 4 on my ultra lights, and 6-10 on my regular spinning tackle.
