This weekend at Fort Kaskaskia. I think this is the first year for this at this location so it could be pretty good as far as crowds go. The paper said it was all free. The usually chage $5 for parking at most events but they said parking was free also.

its about 20 miles nearer I think to you if you come through Pinkneville. We have some nice bow fishing places with in 15-20 min from the Fort. I would love to take you but my wife has to work and I'll have the kids..

Fun, I'm going t o try and get Critter to take me down there at some point...I was really hoping that I would have a new wheelchair by now but no... so I guess I'll take the walker...it has a seat so I can rest... the heat may be a little tough though... I'll try to get ahold of you if we start down that way...

and it was hot. They have a long way to go with this. It could use some orginization. Its hard to make history interesting and keep it totally accurate. It might be a nice thing to see someday...

They put forth a great effort. And I appreciate the fact that they are helping keep our local history alive...

I'm glad you got some pics Fun! We went down..but the majority of the "action" was way too far down in the hollow for me to try in the heat and with the walker..I was going to try and take a few there under the pines but that wasn't such easy going either so I just chucked the whole idea..
Glad you got shots for us!

Glad you archived your goal to get out G. It was kinda hot and a long walk. I hope they get things together better . This , while somewhat of a disappointment to me, has the potential to be a really cool event if its organized into a more visitor friendly outing. This re-enactment has the potential to demonstrate very important underlying factors in not only our local history but the history of how this region became part of the USA. The French and the English fought each other for valuable trapping rights which the English eventually won. This contributed to hard feelings between the local French inhabitants of Kaskaskia and their English occupiers. Which some say influenced the local French to aid George Rogers Clark with his capture, from the English, of the Northwest Territory for Virginia.

I don't mind at all..:) Great Pics! I wish we would have went back. I'm glad they had some of the engagement where more people could see it. I might go back again in the morning just to see what they are doing. I checked out the link Life posted about it and from what I gather the people putting it on are doing it more for themselves and less like the rendezvous at Fort de Chartres where they are performing for the public. IDK if thats true but thats the feeling I get from their web site. Did you get to talk to any of the re-en actors much Ron??

I think you are absolutley right Fungus. I didnt see any vendors or people handing out programs. When they were doing their battle, their language wasn't quite "familly apropriate". Unfortunately I didn't get to talk to anyone. They weren't really socializing alot after the battle. And so I went down to the graveyard to look around.

There was one lady with a horse that was talking to some people at the pavillion though. I didn't talk with her although, she seemed very nice from what I over heard.

I also think(like you) that with the right organization, this could end up being a very entertaining and educational encampment for the public to enjoy.
