In this weeks issue of the County Journal a reader sent a letter to the editor saying that Carbondale passed a city ord. against the transportation of guns in the city and recommends people boycotting places like Crab Orchard because if caught passing through your car or truck and everything in them could be confiscated. Has anyone else heard of this????

Just called City Clerk and the ordinance was passed but it is identical to the IL state gun transportation law, which in a nutshell says gun must be in case and the ammunition must be in another location within vehicle and you must be carrying your FOID card. Nothing new same old law...

That must be a revision ordinance as for at least the past 10 years, Carbondale, ESTL and some Chicago burbs had that ban on transportation way more restrictive than the state law provisions. Even we as LEO's were not exempt when passing through. It sounds like they lightened up a bit which is good.

wow i would have been scrued! i live just south of C'dale and am always going through town with a gun in the jeep(in a case).

When Trnsporting A Firearm It Must Be In A Case And Unloaded.....the Ammunition Can Be In The Same Case As The Firearm As Long As The Firearm Is Unloaded...............
