It's about 60 miles East-Northeast of Springfield. Amazing how far behind the green up is just a few hundred miles North.

Between Champaign and Decatur I saw a sign that said "Origin of Kaskaskia River", so I guess it was where the river starts, but it was just a grassy ditch with no water in it.

I've been kayaking down the Sangamon River from Decatur to Petersburg(Lincoln's New Salem). There is some really neats spots that has small rapids...

Bob, The big rapids are caused by the old (I'm an idiot for swearing)(I'm an idiot for swearing)(I'm an idiot for swearing)(I'm an idiot for swearing) below New Salem at Petersburg Il. Play boaters come from all over to do there tricks. The rapids are called Dead Carp Drop! See link!

Also, in the spring there is class 3 water on the Vermillion River and Lusk Creek down in the shawnee. I've been on all of them.

I was just pokin fun... I'm sure fun water can be found...it's just few and far between here. Having grown up in more mountainous areas of the country this is what I think of for rapids...
Gallatin R. MT (middle of June)... one of my favorites for trout BTW...

Oh, heck no, I believed you 100% from the start...:D Just that IL is not the 1st place many think of when looking for WW.

I'm usually pretty blunt... if I don't believe you, I'll call you out straight forward like:p

I always wanted to get out to the Gallatin R especially after I found out that one of my ex-coworkers aunt owned a trout ranch on the Gallatin right across from Ted Turners place. Reportedly some awesome trout fishing there. I did the Upper and Lower Gauley and the New in WV and had blast, particularly since it was my 1st time WW raftin'. One 14' drop about had me filling me panties..
