I found a good place to gig or dipnet carp and gar today. Just over the levey behind Fort Chartres water is flowin over a culvert about a foot deep. I walked through the water and the where swimin all around me. Look like a good place for Smoky to go kill something....

There are lots of gar at the Rend Lake Dam...You can see right through the water...and catch them all day if you want but we never wanted too....Sometimes they get on the line though and we just cut the line and started again.......
I always thought they were mean......You where in the water with them?

they where about 2 ft long and didn't seam to both me... Carp really is not that bad to eat, I have never tried gar but I have heard it can be prepaired in a way which makes it tasty..

ill just say right now them fish arent going to bother you. they look mean but thay arent just going to come up and attack you

I was at a place up on the Illinois River ( Swan Lake ) and a bunch of gar where trapped in a slue which seamed to be dryin up they where packed in there. Some of them where about 3 1/2 feet long. I wouldn't have jumped in there on a dare just because there where so many packed into such a small space.

went and did some scouting for ducks last year at the carlyle walk-ins and there were a ton of dead carp from the flood waters drying out. i imagine you could go fishing out there. place smelld really bad from all the dead rotting carcasses and the summer heat, but there were sure a lot of them.
