I'll add more photos and story later...
ok, so my friend Bob roosted some birds on our property last night for his nephew Joey, who would be hunting the Illinos youth season , we set up on them Saturday morning within 150 yards, had 4-5 birds gobbling and some hens with them, I gave them a few yelps to let them know we there, the birds headed SW once they hit the ground, so we're sittin' there and I'm debating how to circle around them if they keep going when we here a gobble straight west, CLOSE! I whispered for Joey to turn and get ready, the birds, three jakes, ran up the edge of our food plot right behind us then came in the woods, i had the video cam goin' but they were close and I was afraid to move, they started headin' SW back towards other birdsheading away and almost too far to shoot, I gave a few soft yelps, they all stopped, one puffed up, they couldn't see our decoys cuz they were back to the east, I'm videoing them now and right when they walk behind a tree he pulls the trigger and smokes the one that was strutting, 35 yards, dropped him, but all out of the cameras view, oh well.
I found the four leaf clover at the truck when we were heading to get some breakfast, which we made the young man buy, thats the deal, if he kills a bird he's buying breakfast, (he did last year too).
after breakfast I went to check my cams and look for a few 'shrooms, I found 54!!! Black morels in the same area my other buddy found 30 yesterday, also found a big hunka' Oysters! off one of my reliable stumps that I always find them on in September and October.
guess you could say it was our "Lucky Day"
