Nope, no photos of dead turkey here, yet. just astory of the ones that got away.
I roosted a bird Saturday night, he was in the same area as Saturday morning, so I got out E-A-R-L-Y ! After flydown he came back to my soft calls but hung up at 70 yards and just stared my way, there wasn't a twig between us so I couldn't move a muscle for over 45 minutes, he would occasionally gobble then just stare my way, but never did strut. I had two other Gobblers come in following 2 hens who came withing 35 yards of me but the Big Toms stayed back at 100 yards or so, both strutting and gobbling, awesome sight, the Sun through the trees on their tailfans. I watched these birds for almost three hours within 100 - 150 yards. I had another tom gobbling in the distance, I started hitting the calls pretty hard hoping he would here it, at about 9 I could here he was coming, I saw him go between some trees a couple hundred yards out, but never did see him, at about 10:00 something must have spooked the other group, the hen was cackling as she took off thru the timber with the two gobblers right behind her hammerin' all the way. I never heard another peep after that.
But, what a morning!
I tried some other set ups but never heard another gobble, I did see a few hens by themselves, so I knew the toms were alone.
I went 4 times and every one of the huts was a good one, just no dead bird,
oh well, I still have one more weekend that I will be able to hunt.
