To me this makes it look like they are just trying to get around there way of living.

You'd be surprised, but they still have a lot of fun. Ever see 'For Richer or For Poorer' with Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley? Very real. They love to get one over on someone while letting the other person think they're the one pulling something over on them.

Back to the original subject though, I could see where something like this could be pretty convenient if you are hiking in and away from any other source of electricity for an extended time. You're right about those prices though. I bought an AC invertor for the truck so I can plug my charger or other AC device in while away from home.

a little pricey yes..but could really be a handy thing....not to mention..one more thing powered by the sun vs Amren can't be all bad...

The Amish are cool folks. It's just weird to me that people see them as some sort of tourist attraction. Of course I grew up just down the road from Lancaster PA.... we dealt w/ the Amish a lot. We always bought our Red Wings from an Amish guy named Aden... he and his boys also worked tack and leather goods.

Here's a solar charger for cell phones for only $35. http://www.midamericasolar.com/product.php?productid=384&cat=34&page=1 This company will also put your house on solar for electric, water heater, etc., but don't expect that to be near as cheap.

They even have a solar oven. http://www.midamericasolar.com/home.php?cat=32 It'd probably work pretty good when camping and stuff too.
