You know last year, on the first day of the season I had, it rained. I hunted until 1:00 out in it, and came away that day empty handed.

Day 2 was beautiful, and I had one of my best hunts ever with two gobblers inside 20 yards. I didn't get a shot, but what an awesome morning.

Day 3 nothing would work. A buddy and I pulled every trick out of the bag we had, and came up with nothing more that a good day in the woods with allot of exercise.

Day 4, everything came together and we nearly got a double. I got my bird and we were happy.

Now, I look at the forecast for this weekend. I tell myself, "No one in his or her right mind would sit out in that to try and shoot a turkey."

I declare, I am not in my right mind. I will be out in that junk tomorrow, and Sunday too if necessary.

I know that it will be tough hunting. But, I am guaranteed no success if I just stay in bed.

Any other brave souls giving it a go in the morning? Hell or high water! (the high water part is real close to be an actuality though! )

I'll be out there, through, wind, rain, sleet, snow, whatever Momma Nature throws at me. The high water is my main deterrent, when the water gets high the birds on the farm I'll be hunting are usually on property I can't get to, all I can do is get close and try to call them across to me. This happened to me 2 years ago, I was sucked up against the creek and called one within shooting range but on the other side, I didn't pull the trigger hoping he might fly over so I wouldn't have to swim for him, and then he was gone.
Another time about 5 years ago I was hunting in Brown County went out early, hiked in about 3/4 of a mile to birds we roosted the night before, right before daylight a Monster Rain Storm with lightning came thru, we just tucked our heads into our rainsuits and rode it out, I apparently fell asleep, when I woke to my buddy nudging me I looked up to see a Gobbler standing at 25 yards looking at us, I was facing the wrong way and couldn't move, I hoped he would relax and keep coming down the edge for a shot but he turned, dropped behind some bushes and was gone!
That's Turkey Hunting! Sometimes it seems Impossible and every once in awhile it all falls into place.

Good Luck xOZx!

I will be hitting the woods this weekend just hope for no rain. I can handle all elements except I hate hunting when it is raining.

Not trying to say you can not kill in rain I just don't like hunting in the rain. Cold yes, snow yes, wind yes, warm yes, but wet a** no. I love hunting but I am not so mad at the wild game to chase them in rain. Just my personal preference.

I haven't gotten a tag for three years. This year I tried for Monroe county, second season and got it. A little rain and wind won't stop me from getting out there.
