We camped at Lake glendale which was nice and visited
the Chocolate Facotory-in golconda and cave in rock which was neat...

Metropolis is nice, it has a campground and a fort there, they have a reinactment in the fall that is a big deal for them .....thousands and thousands of people come to visit that...........Fort Massac is on the Ohio River. The camgrounds are clean and the bathrooms were nice......It has a park there and a picnic area. One night a bobcat came right up by our campsite though which suprized me.Big Johns (grocery store) is right next door. The forts are open and you can go up in them. the kids can climb the ladders to the second floor which is neat. They also have a movie in a little room about the history of Fort Massac. The forts there now are not orginals. It was rebuilt, long story! Metropolis is the home of superman and they have a big superman statue downtown on their square....they also have little antique stores downtown.......They also have a riverboat with gambling and it did have a pretty good resturant on it..... Metropolis is only 5 min away from Paducah as well if you wanna visit Gander mountain or need something from good ol Super Walmart.

the neatest place ive been to is the shawnee forest near golconda. we always take deer and turkey hunting trips there and you drive about 30 min up into those giant hills and its preety cool. huge bluffs make a great spot to camp with a great view

Lake Glendale is really nice camping.......they also have the little lake there and you can hike around it. It is really pretty. We stayed down there last spring during easter and there wasn't hardly anyone there......They do have a new showerhouse finally that is really nice and they have a beach there with concessions. I think it is 14 a night for Ele, not sure on tent camping. It is one of the only Class A camping in Shawnee Forrest...I think the name was Oak Point. They have boats you can rent there and paddle boats for rent. The lake is clear. You can go out on the paddleboat and see all the way down or swim over at the beach and see the sand. They also have a playground for the kids. And we seen lots of deer at night..........It is very scenic. The pine trees in there are so huge and it looks real woody......Dixon Springs State Park is close and we also drove over to Cave-in-Rock which is neat if you never been. The chocolate factory had the best ice cream! They even have little chocolate shaped deer and fish...They do have a couple little resturants down town that we didnt try and they have a grocery store like a Big johns or something....I think you can even ride on the ferry to get to the other side of the river if I remember correctly but there was already cars waiting so we just drove......

I took my oldest to this last year, and we had lots of fun. If you have kids, or are new to fishing this is a great learning experience. BEST OF ALL ITS FREE.

BUMP BUMP FOR G! Here's the info on Fort Massac! Well have to go there sometime...The fishing is neat on the river, well you all prolly know though having those rivers up there....Lots of skeeters it seemed like and seem some foxes too in the campgrounds.....

Shawnee Hill Bed and Breakfast is a real nice place. It is located in Cobden. they have some nice property with a few ponds. The food there is great as is the hospitality!

The neatest place I've ever been in Southern Illinois was about 800' underground in the Kerr-McGee mine at Galatia. I had an industrial electronics course at John A. logan and the instructor had retired from that mine a few years before and with all of his teaching ane explaining circuitry and applications he had some mining story to go along with it, one day he asked if we'd like to go see the stuff he had always talked about. A few weeks later we took a field trip to the mine. It was pretty cool on the long wall miner an continuous miner and all the stuff they had down there.

I heard when you go down underground that it's suppose to be the darkest dark...did you go under?

Yes we went underground, about 800' down to be exact. yes it was dark but we had our little lights, the guy we were with ask us all to turn our lights off just to see how dark it was.... it was completely black.

The thing you learned quick was when you talk to someone you don't look at them, if you do your light is blinding them.

Yea, I heard they like to do that when they take folks down just so they get a good feel of how dark it really is down there..

One other thing they told us is do not take your hardhat off, you will walk your head into the top of the mine in places or you will loose it and your light that is attached.

Gretchen what I do is arrange mine into folders and label certain groups of pictures by where they were or whatever, like all my bird dog pics are in one folder, many are divided by locations (as far as main ones like the clubhouse, N.IL, a friends place), non hunting pics, or whatever else, my vacation pics are divided by year, state, place/park, fishing, etc.

I am use to arranging things by folder at work so that is what works for me.

it's a "grand" spot.. LOL One hike the meal worms were hatching out in masse..and every step you took, every rock was covered..I picked those little buggers out my hair, my pockets, my socks...it was amazingly close to some B grade horror movie..but ended up with lots of bait! I dwear every rock I went to use as a handhold I came back with a handful of them...

I didn't have the pleasure? of the worms. It was early spring when I went there, still kinda cool and no bugs. I wish I had my camera with me at the time. Plan on going back this early spring and take my daughter, I think she will really like the waterfalls. Another reason I went early in spring was the likelyhood of not seeing any snakes!
