I know there are several species of Owl in Illinois: Great Horned, Long Eared, Barred, Barn etc

Strange, a lot of us never get to see many breeds other than Barred (I searched for pictures and only found Barred--little surprised no great horned pics)

Anyone got any other pictures they have taken of these other breeds (In Illinois)?

The closest I've ever gotten to an owl was a time I didn't have a camera with me. Digitals weren't around for home users back in '95 or there abouts. I twas setting in the middle of the entrance to my driveway when I was coming home from work around midnight. I had to use my briefcase to nudge it so I could drive in. I sure didn't want to hurt it. Not sure what kind it was, but that's my closest encounter. We've got quite a few owls around here.

My only chance at a Great Horned I was bow hunting and had one land in the top of the tree I was in. I was not into photography yet so no photos. When he let out a call it raised the hair on the back of my neck :eek:. Very impressive bird.

I have several owl pics...some here..some not...I do have couple of close up of a horned owl..somewhere..but honestly don't when I'll get them found this weekend...

Great pic, I agree, but it is, indeed, a barred owl. Just my point. HAHA. I hope I have the chance to take some pictures of a Great Horned someday.
