My 91 yr old Granpa is from Herrin and wants to fish crab orchard, devils kitchen, little grassy, etc again but his old car wouldnt make the trip and mine wont pull his boat.
any one know of a place I might be able to rent one?

You can rent them at Rend Lake on the north side.......the north side is state and the south side is federal.....the state side has a state park called wanye fitzgerald. Pretty good size place......They have a hotel and cabins and they also have jon boats and pontoons for rent........They also have like a gift shop, resturant, and you can even rent fishing poles and buy bait. Now going the back way on the other side of the lake is rend lake marina and they rent boats there as well for 60 a day with a 50 dollar deposit. You might have to have a credit card...I can't remember....they rent jet skis and pontoons as well for rent. Go to Rend Lake Website or Rend Lake Marina and look on there. For bass fishing we really don't care for Rend Lake as much as some of the other lakes...
On little grassy there is a 10hp limit.....they rent boats as well as Devil's Kitchen does.......you will have to call the refuge 618-997-3344 and ask more details about them.....and you can call 1800-gee-se99 to get a fishing report..
Cedar Lake is a really nice clean lake which would be nice for a boat trip but I am not sure if they rent boats or not.....
Hope this helps!

If that old kick ass Bronco is yours, it'll pull anything.

I think DK marina has been closed down for good! :( Try little grassy but I think they only rent for that lake when they open up, cedar has no marina.

The BRONCO is the MOST kick ass truck I ever owned. It would go ANYWHERE, and turn around in the tightest spots. I bent rims on that thing, and it kept rollin. You can haul people and gear out the wazoo. Perfect sportsman's truck

I watch it drive by my house every day.:(

i use live minnow for crappie and i was curious how everyone baits their hook, i was told just stick it through their body by their dorcel fin and out the other side, but they dont seem to live long that way.also hear through their mouth and out on their head. any help is appreciated.

I've found going through both eyes keeps the minnow alive longer. My favorite bait for crappie is a tube jig on a 1/16 oz jig head. Catch more fish with jigs then minnows brown/chartruese, black/chartruese, or all white tubes the best. Just fish them like you would with a minnow using a bobber.

i always go through their back around the dorsal fin but you need to be careful you dont go too far deep. you need to keep it just under the spine, if u go too far down the body they die.

I hook them through the eyes. I saw a guide do that a few years back and it works. A minnow will still live without its eyes. Here are some pics from Mondays crappie fishing trip up at Lake Reelfoot.

I seem to do better with minnows if I put the hook a little behind the dorsal fin but still in the upper half of the minnow.

Hey HighCountry, that pic looks like the cleaning table at Acorn Point Lodge. Am I right? I was there 2 weeks ago.
