I'm considering southern ill. for a spring snow goose hunt with my son. I was wondering if anyone might have some pointers about best areas;estimate on peak migration and how the hunt could compare to a previous hunt I did in Missourri. Im traveling from ohio and would appreciate any info. thanx

Here is the IDNR Waferfowl survey sight. If you scroll down you can check archived surveys from last year. To my knowledge, Carlyle Lake is known for holding alot of snows. March 1 of last year the were holding 225,000 snows/blues. I'm sure some of the other guys on here will be able to give you better details.

But last year we had a REALLY cold Feburary. I would say peak migration would be the last 2 weeks of Feb. in SOuthern IL

Rip, Both sides of Carlyle Lake usually hold thousands of snow geese, of course it depends on the weather. We had some success the last couple of weeks in February last year. They usually roost on the lake and travel to the fields in the morning. Not alot of pressure by snow hunters yet but the Patoka Illinois and Keyesport Illinois area are getting more notoriety. You can get a lay out of the lake and the surrounding area by going to www.Carlylelake.com for a guide to the terrain.
