this pretty much sums it up...

• Fingolimod (FTY 720)
In the 1990’s, Asian scientists conducted studies on mushrooms used in traditional Chinese medicine to determine whether these mushrooms contained any chemical compounds that had effects on the immune system. Through these studies, they identified a compound which has now been developed into a promising oral drug for MS. This drug prevents immune cells from leaving lymph nodes—this mechanism, which is different from that of any existing MS drug, traps disease-causing immune cells in the lymph nodes, thereby protecting the nervous system from these cells. In clinical studies, Fingolimod has significantly decreased the frequency of MS attacks and the development of new MRI lesions. The drug is now in a large, 2,000-patient, worldwide clinical trial, known as the FREEDOMS Trial—positive results in this trial could lead to FDA approval.

long live the shrooms...

they keep this up and I'll pretty soon be able to grow every single one of my meds....LOL

Did they say which mushrooms they derived this from? I know the maitake (hen of the woods) has been used in Chinese medicine for over 2 millenia. They use many others too. There's always a good selection of dried and fresh mushrooms in the oriental markets. In Korea I used to see vendors selling medicinal herbs and such on the sidewalks. The FDA would have a fit with them having their wares laying on a blanket on the sidewalk, but it's common practice there. The FDA probably would have fits with them selling medicinals that the drug companies couldn't make any money off of too.

I dunno, I do know it was a block or two down from the fudge store and down a block towards the river.
I had the intentions of going there to shoot some bird pics but didn't get to. Made too many stops here and there and then ate at the finn inn.

Yep that would be it..the bar is called the loading dock..but it's usally closed in the winter months..lots of bikes there in warm weather and at the Wild Goose too..how did you like the Fin Inn?

The finn inn was pretty neat. Unlike what others have said about a wait, we didn't have to wait at all. The service was a lil slow but the food was great. My wife, daughter, and myself really enjoyed the fish tanks. A lady at the fudge shop said that the fish market or fish stands or something along those lines was good to.

I was really dissapointed with not getting to see a whole lot while we were there though. I really wanted to get there in time to see some sites. If I can afford the gas this w/e , I plan on dragging my daughter along with me to take some pictures along the river hopefully see a eagle or two.

Ronin..if you go this weekend..take a side trip across thre bridge to Missouri..some of the best birds are over on the missouri side in the sanctuary..just go across the Lewis and Clark bridge and then make a an immediate left..at the gas station/quick mart..wander back into there...that same raod will take you back to the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri too..it's a neat but little park..but it would be cool to show your daughter the confluence..if you need some maps or links..pm me..
The eagles are super to see at the lock and dam on the MO side, or to sit in the covered deck at the Wild Goose - it faces the river and is across from the Finn Inn...

The more ice there is, it seems the more eagles you see up there...
