Hey everybody. Nice forum. Anyone here ever try catching the Trout in Devils Kitchen? I have to admit, I live within 15 minutes of Devils Kitchen and never even fished it. Shame on me. Anyway I'm gonna give it a try this spring. Anyone with any knowledge of the lake? Thanks in advance.

I've only been there once and all i know is its deep and very clear water. and watch out for tree tops in deep water, I almost ran on sum in about 20 ft. Its best to get a map and take it slow.

Thanks for the info about the tree tops. I've heard from others about them as well. Seems most fishing reports in the Southern Illinoisan mention trout being caught in front of the dam on minnows or pinches of night crawler. I assume they are talking about vertical jigging the minnows/worms until you find the right depth?

Hey, DK is my home water (5min away) the trout are fun in the spring if you can find them. I like to bass fish it but carry a fly rod with me. When I see one roll, cast a woolybugger or a dry fly and can usually catch my 5. In fall they push together and move in a big ball. When thay are like this you can catch them on anything. If you want the bigger ones you have to fish in front of the dam like they were talking about. Personally id rather use the fly rod.

Well I've only fished for bass and bluegill down there. GREAT campground. No amenities though. (I like it that way) I've read that night fishing by the dam with a floating or submersible light can be deadly for the trout there.

BT I'm a die hard born and bred trout fly-fishing guy. When are we goin?
