View Full Version : Hunting for a Christmas Tree
chymerikaen 11-24-2007, 23:24 Today we went on our annual hunt for the perfect Christmas tree. Like usual, we ended up at Whispering Pines out there east of Johnston City. Everybody got a good tree, and my niece, Abby, had a blast running through the tree rows and stomping mole hills.
Here she surveys one of the potential picks.

Here, I'd say she was happy to get the perfect tree, but in reality, I had to bribe her with my earmuffs to get her to smile for my camera!

Offhand, I've started shooting in RAW - takes quite a bit more processing and I'm still getting used to the enormous file sizes!
Kewl, nice pics...We still gotta get our tree....We always get fresh and I like the douglas fir the best.....the needles are softer and they seem to hold them better than the pines.......
Are you talking about on christmas tree road?
chymerikaen 11-24-2007, 23:44 Nope, it's way further down the Herrin-Colp road. You go thru Johnston City and about six miles or so down the road, you'll see a little Christmas tree farm on the right hand side called Whispering Pines. It's run by this adorable lil old man - we've been getting our tree from him for years!
Yeah, every year we talk about switching to artificial, but we just can't give up the annual ritual of stompin' around the fields looking for a fresh 'un! Plus, the kids always have a blast! This year, we dragged both of my sisters with us - they'd never, ever been Christmas tree shopping before and they were just amazed! Hahahahah! :)
Oh ok...........I think I know what you are talking about...He's got wreath's and all for sale too????
Anyway yea, when we got our new wood floors we thought about it but I just can't for some reason.......I ran into two or three last year on clearnace for like 15-20 bucks that were like 75-100 and I just couldn't.......
What is his prices like.....I think we give about 40 for ours.......But B always wants a HUGE one.....we had to cut and cut ours last year to get it to fit.......
chymerikaen 11-25-2007, 00:48 Yeah, I think he's got wreaths and stuff too. This year we got an 8ft tree for $32 - the biggest we've ever had was a 12-footer, but we decided to get a smaller one this year (less rearranging of furniture!). We've got ours soaking right now, but we'll probably have it up tomorrow and start decorating.
Oh that's not bad......We might try him this year then.......The kids can't wait to go get a tree everyear......but gosh they look alot bigger when you bring them in don't they.......lol
Oh no we just got all that furniture too.....Im really gonna have to think of something now....I can't move my precious moments cabinet because it is super super heavy and I can't move the tv because it's in the wall I don't know what I am gonna do about that.......crap, back to the drawing board.....lol
I've always liked the Frasier Firs, but since they don't grow here, I gotta go to Lowes for one... I 'd rather go to a cut your own lot, but...
We got ours yesterday.
Nice pics Chy.
gretchensteele 11-25-2007, 09:45 Yikes you guys start this Christmas stuff early!! We usually just get a cedar tree from the pastur eor fence row..our family won't be having Christmas until late this year cause Marlow doesn't get home until after..and at our house we'll just do Solstice...
I suppose I am a grinch...I just can't get into all the decorating business ...
lifestudent55 11-25-2007, 15:17 We didn't do any decorating last year cause Michael was still in Iraq, and this year I'm looking at how much electricity he uses by himself. Oh yeah, in his room there's the TV and sat receiver, Play Station, laptop, and stereo, all running at the same time. Nope, we're going minimalist on the decorating again this year.
