I was wondering if anyone knows a place I might catch smallmouth? I didn’t know if Pyramid State Park had any. What about those lakes up north all of you guys talk about? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

I miss those little acrobats. We used to have 100 fish days. As far as I know the best close SM fishin is in the creeks and rivers of southern MO. But if I'm drivin over there it's gonna be for trout. josh 01-31-2007, 17:58 Baldwin lake has smallies in it. Ive only caught one out of there, but i was trying to catch largemouths. It may be good smallie fishing if you know what your doing. Bowtechman 01-31-2007, 21:23 cool, sounds good, i have caught a ton of LM but never a Smallie. Bob your right the streams are for trout. i was looking for a place to fish over spring break, i got some time to look. Bob 02-01-2007, 06:40 Anybody ever go to Arkansas? My bro and I went down to fish the tail waters, but they were all too high. (I still want to hit them) So we went to the Spring River. You can catch just about anything outta there. Trout, LM/SM bass, musky, walleye, and who knows what else. It would be a cool river for an extended float. You could start for trout at the upper section, and adjust as you go down river. If snakes bother you, this may not be for you. Never in my life have I seen so many water snakes. When we 1st got there they had us jumpin, but by the end of the week we'd just kick em out of the way. They swim right at you if you're wading, just push them along with your rod. Smokey Mc Pot 02-18-2007, 13:27 went there waterfowl hunting when i was little and the wateers are nice looking Smokey Mc Pot 02-18-2007, 13:28 went ice fishing for anthing that would bite and cought a 2 pund bass at the pits wierd huh FunGusAmonGus 02-20-2007, 19:42 Caster River, MO its about 30 min. south of Perryville, MO just off Highway 51 near markqand. Its got great little holes you can just walk from one to the other. The water is very clear. JDawg 03-05-2007, 11:47 Hopefully we will be catching Smallies right here in our back yard very soon! There have been Smallies stocked in Kinkaid for the last few years. I am trying to find a link on the exact numbers, but I know they want to stock a lot more. Not sure how they are doing either. Kinkaid has an excellent forage base of crawfish with a lot of rock shelves and rip rap on the main lake, so you would think the Smallmouth would do well, but we will have to wait and see. Jdawg, I think I read an article about that... If you can refind the info feel free to post a link. JDawg 03-05-2007, 13:01 Here's the link to the article you probably read. http://www.southernillinoisan.com/articles/2007/02/09/outdoors/19163819.txt Bob 03-05-2007, 13:22 Yup that's it... Thanks. GREAT NEWS TOO> JDawg 03-05-2007, 20:20 This info came from another forum and is directly from the Kinkaid fisheries biologist. "Kinkaid Stocking Report" I just received an email from our fisheries biologist, Shawn Hirst, and he gave me the 2006 stocking report. Looks like Kinkaid is in good hands with Shawn as our biologist! Here is the 2006 Kinkaid Rearing Pond fish production numbers. These fish were all stocked into Kinkaid Lake at the Water Plant boat ramp on Sept 28, 2006. Small Pond - 16,000 (4.5 inch avg size) white crappie Medium Pond - 1300 (6.1 inch avg size) walleye Reiman Pond - 750 (7.5 inch avg size) smallmouth bass Brittin Pond - 2400 (4.5 inch avg size) smallmouth bass On top of those stockings from rearing ponds, the lake also received 2000 10-12 inch muskies as well! Bowtechman 03-05-2007, 20:47 Wow thats cool! i might have to make my way over and try for some smallies later on. |
