That are willing to share any tips? These are a couple places I had been looking at going to eventually, Sounds like they are both hunted quite a bit, but people still have success out there...would primarily be going on weekdays, trying to avoid the crowds.

Not looking for honey holes here, guys, I know how important those can be! But just your general impressions of the places if you have been there before.

I have been out to Chouteau quite a bit. There are a lot of deer out there, but a lot of bowhunters. I would guess that the farther you walk from the parking lots the fewer hunters you would see. You have to get a site permit from the Horseshoe Lake office. I used to quail hunt out there, but the word got out and there are more bird hunters out there too.

Working on that, getting the wife to drop by horseshoe on her lunch break to get a map and permit...she works pretty close, and I can't make their 7:00 to 3:00 hours! Which direction from the main lot is normally a good one to go? Obviously I don't know what part if it is public or private yet, since I don't have a map...

That's it, I drive over it every day, so I thought it might be a good one to flex work hours and try to get a morning or afternoon middle-of-the-week hunt at...

Not all of it is puclic ground, though, I believe, still have to get a map...

I've never hunted it but heard there was alot of deer and some big bucks to boot. You could get to much more remote areas and could also hunt the Mosenthein Island portion if you had a boat. Wanna get away from the crowds? A boat is the ticket there.

P.S.- There supposedly is a boat ramp on the Missouri side of the river directly across from Mosenthein Island. Wouldn't be a long boat ride at all.

yeah I know where that boat ramp is. Its right off Riverview Drive..I always wanted to go to that island everytime I drive by it. I think there was some type of civil war camp there.I wonder if it ever getts flooded?

Its a great place to hunt. The further you go the better the hunting is. I killed 3 deer up there last year. You got to have a hunting permit pass from Horseshoe lake office to hunt those areas. I'm hunting up there Thursday mornnig. I'll let you know how it goes...
