MMMMMmmm MMMMmmmmmm.......
Just made up the quail I got on Tues. into some quail and dumplings. Nothing better on a cold winter day, after hunting Pyramid and bucking that bitter wind. Man the house smells good!!:)
does sound good, but quail are harder to find than ducks!!
Joe, you should have seen the ducks down there at Pyramid.
I like dumplings but have a tough time making them. Can you post your recipe?
Well the dumplings that i make are the rolled variety not the dropped kind. I start out with one and a half cups flour and one and a half teaspoon salt. mix. The I cut in a third cup butter or shortening til crumbly. Then i add milk until a nice dough ball forms. Roll out to pie crust thickness and cut up with a pizza cutter. let set on the counter forabout 110-15 minutes to dry abit. I am usually getting the meat and vegs out of the broth at this time. Bring the broth back to a light boil. Add your dumplings slowly one by one so they don't clump together. Bring itback to a boil and then back it down to a simmmer for about 10-15 minutes. Don't stir alot while they are cooki, just swirl them a little every so often. After they are done to likeness add your meat and vegs back in a your ready to eat.;)

sounds delish Jim! Hey next time you head to Pyramid.. give me a ring :) We'll get some pics of the dogs in action somewhere other than a hunt test or training day :)
Did you find good numbers of quail? Willie and I always seem to kick up tons over there ...
Jim - don't know if James called you but me a another guy did real well on the gese yesterday. Many ducks also, to bad season was closed on them. I wanted to go back to day, but have plans with the wife. I hope he got hold of you! It could be a quick hunt. Only public land hunt of the year that worked out well.
He did but my enthusiasm has come and gone for the year!
