View Full Version : They're gone...
I hunted ducks the last 3 days, and it just didn't pan out. With this REAL cold weather here now, I think the few that were left will be gone completely. The geese are still here, but I'm short about 3 dozen decoys, cause I have zero...:(.
Quackaddict59 01-20-2007, 19:58 anyone going out for the last day tomorrow?
I was out yesterday hanging trail cams, and saw birds on the river. I think I may go toss a few dekes off the bank and see what happens, seeing as how I'm up and all.

See there trail cams even helped your bird hunting. LOL
Yeah saw a bunch of Common Goldeneye, and that's about it.
I went out today and yesterday for geese and ducks. No ducks but me and my freind shot 3 specks and 4 canadians. Two of the canadians were banded. Only saw about 15 ducks the whole time. Saw about 300 specks and about 10,000 snows not too many canadians about 150.
Hey Josh was that you right by your grandpas? I saw a spread and some layouts there when I was driving back. Sounds like a great day.

Steven K 01-25-2007, 11:10 Yea its over now, the end count was 11 ducks, and one honker so far, defintly down from last years 38 but oh well
Ive been goose hunting right next to baldwin lake ive been seeing a small amount of ducks come of the lake everytime i hunt. Hopefully ill get some more geese to kill this weekend. Ill tell everyone what happens.
hunted at pyramid thurs. how sad. saw 6 canadas. several hundred new specks have shown up. saw a few thousand snows which is promising for the 1st of feb. did hear that a decent ammount of migrating canadas showed up around freeburg yesterday. maybe pit 3 and baldwin picked up a few too. don't even want to see my pit until the first. all i get amped up for is snows now. since they are the only geese that you can count on showing up every year. good luck this weekend guys.
went out this morning and didnt shoot at a thing. We saw plenty of geese but there was somone parked on the side of the road right next to our pit and it kept flaring the geese before we could get them to work. Saw a few ducks today too.

pit 3 is the strip mine right outside of new athens.
And it's public. some info...CLICK HERE (http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/PARKS/R4/PEABODY.HTM)
The locals just use the old mine name Pit 3, the state calls it Peabody/River King FWA.

Yeah, no waterfowling at Peabody. Small game, and archery deer only. Lots of lakes. Here's a map. (http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/hunter_fact_sheet/R4%20Maps/prkmap.pdf)
That is a big one. Nice pic. I saw a bunch of big mallards out at Becks last week. You should enter it in the contest seeing how nobody else is entering.
Steven K 02-01-2007, 11:35 hah yea i wish u could hunt there, usually alot of ducks
