This is probably the first time I could have taken the limit on quail and not harmed the population. My dad couldn't go this morning after our prayer meeting at church so I went alone and got into 3 coveys of birds. The dogs were on fire and performed flawlessly, couldn't have done anything different with them, perfect retrieves, perfect points, backed each other. The first two birds I got were a double, two got up two went down two shots fired, and each dog got to bring one back! :) The highlight of the day were actually these first two birds, I have often said I can walk any direction and never say a word to my oldest dog Rocket and I will walk no more than 50 or 60' before he is out front of me somewhere without saying a word to him notifying him of a direction change. I have also often said my other dog Gunner Jo is a great fenceline and ditch dog and will work either at the pace that you walk along and will cover eerything and never be too far (this dog is never too far in any cover). Well today I proved both statements, after our initial talk at the truckbed I never said a word or made a noise till I yelled "DEAD BIRD" and "bring it here." Only reason for yelling 'dead bird' is so they knew I actually got one and the 'bring it here' statement was simply an expression of joy. Literally I never aid a word or made a noise implying I was telling the dogs what to do, they simply did it. Here are the only two pictures I have of today:
