View Full Version : Which shotgun do yall shoot
Birdhunter1 10-02-2007, 20:02 Mine is a Beretta AL 391 Urika 20 gauge with a 2*' barrel. To date the gun has only shot doves, pheasants, quail and chukars.. and three cats.
My backup gun is a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge, best gun ever built period! Hasn't seen any field use, other than deer season of 05 since I bought the Beretta in 2004.
So what do you all shoot and what do you shoot with it?
lifestudent55 10-02-2007, 20:06 I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster chambered for 2 3/4" with modified choke. I've used it successfully on quail and rabbits and blasted a lot of holes in the air at turkey and deer. Unfortunately I haven't fired it in 11 years though. :(
DetectDave 10-02-2007, 20:28 Browning A5 for my duck and goose hunting (currently at Color & Camo getting dipped in Max4) and a Montgomery Ward double bbl 20 that was my pappy's for quail & doves.
B80 Browning, 22 inch bbl. for everything.
Don't want a Beretta, they can't hit anything LOL
Birdhunter1 10-02-2007, 20:48 Neither can that misfiring POS Ruger red label of yours either Deno.
By the way am I still in the will for that Ruger?
Quackaddict59 10-02-2007, 20:55 i use my 1187 super mag for everything, ducks, geese, deer and doubles as oar when the battery dies on the boat lol my dad has a red label and i love that gun. shot my first perfect round on the skeet range with it.
Birdhunter1 10-02-2007, 21:00 The red labels are nice, Deno's is a sweet little 28 gauge that i have tried to take home a few times but he has always found it in my truck before I left.
Ya gotta keep an eye on Bird.
Quackaddict59 10-02-2007, 21:29 wingmasters are a great gun too. heck all remington guns are awesome just about.
CodyMiller 10-02-2007, 22:29 Browning A5 for my duck and goose hunting (currently at Color & Camo getting dipped in Max4) and a Montgomery Ward double bbl 20 that was my pappy's for quail & doves.
Where's Color&Camo and how much does something like that cost to get done aftermarket?
I have a Savage 210FT 12 gauge BOLT ACTION shotgun, I won it at my first NWTF banquet, I have a simmons 1-5x20 pro-diamond scope on it, I use it for turkey and deer, for turkey I use a hastings extra full choke tube, for deer I use an extended rifled choke tube with Winchester standard velocity sabot slugs, it shoots those really well. this is not my gun in pic but it looks just like this one,
http://www.siloutdoors.com/imagehosting/31447030902c0238.jpg
also have a Remington 1100 2 3/4", mod barrel and full rifled barrel, rifle sights, for deer my wife uses a Remington 870 youth model 20 ga. with rifled slug barrel and a 4x32 scope, she shoots the new hornady sst 20 gauge slugs and its a tack driver.
Quackaddict59 10-02-2007, 22:42 my buddy has a savage like that. really cool gun.
Birdhunter1 10-02-2007, 22:46 A guy from Kentucky I know has one too, it is nice and extremely accurate.
Umm.. wanted to suprize my hub once again and I thought I would get him a gun...I bought him a Remington 870 ..but I bought the wrong one.....whoopsies......or no wait, I was suppose to get both barrels or something...IDK.....
I have shot it up at the shooting range, but I aian't killed nuttin yet:rolleyes: ....he also killed a pheasant with it up north by Chi-town.....oh and it's nice decor.:D :D

I got a Mossberg 500 w/ a poly choke I bought at an auction for $80... that thing shoots, and I could care less about it, also have the ol stand by 870 express... another great gun...
DetectDave 10-03-2007, 04:39 Color and Camo is about 8 miles south of Paducah. They do some awesome work and have recently contracted w/ Mann's in Pinckneyville to do work for them. If you completely break down the gun and ship it, it is $165. I delivered mine not broken down and to have them do every possible exposed piece like trigger guard and bolt including insured shipping back to my home, it was $240. Here's their site:
http://www.colorandcamo.com/PRICING.htm
They are some very nice young guys operating out of a shed at home. BTW, they can camo just about anything you want. They even had some camo'd blenders like ya use in your house.
TARHEEL HUNTER 10-03-2007, 09:47 T/C Encore with 12 ga rifled barrel For deer in Illinois and a Rem 11-87 Super-Mag for turkey and ducks.
carpsniper 10-03-2007, 10:06 Mossberg 500, Tuff gun, shoots better'n I do.
My favorite is my Winchester Model 12. It's just like the one my Grandpa had. Even with a 30" barrel it's light and has great balance.
Smokey Mc Pot 10-03-2007, 15:15 i shoot the old remington 870 baby got two of them i have been thinking of getting the new extrama 2 but think il stick with the american classic remi

We aiant hatin smoke........
Birdhunter1 10-03-2007, 16:11 What are we procrastinating on?
My main weapon is an Super X3 camo, the back-up is an 11-87SP. I got the X-3 this spring just in time for snow goose hunting, had an X-2, but just had to have a 3. Realy like the 3, lightweight, quick and low recoil. Gun performed well during dove and teal season.
lifestudent55 10-03-2007, 19:40 i shoot the old remington 870 baby got two of them i have been thinking of getting the new extrama 2 but think il stick with the american classic remi
Nice choice of firearms there Smoke. I'm with you...just stick with your 870's. Those are some fine shotguns.
CodyMiller 10-03-2007, 20:24 Just got a Remington SPR453 last year. It's really a Russian gun called a Baikal but Remington imports them and prints their name on the side. Oh well though, $300 for a brand new 3 1/2" auto. Can't beat that I don't think.
Also still have my first gun ever, an 870 youth. First time I ever shot a shotgun and first time this gun was ever shot I was in junior high and won a money round at a local turkey shoot. I was hooked from then on.
Smokey Mc Pot 10-03-2007, 22:16 haha my 20 guage is a youth a cusom youth i made it into a youth cut it and everything when i grew into it we just put the stock back on and it worked fine the only bad thing is its scared for life

Much better on the spelling Smokey, now if we could only get something resembling punctuation in there?
I think smokey's pullin our leg on the spelling and puncuation!
Birdhunter1 10-03-2007, 22:40 I think he is too!

my brother bought one last year and a buddy of mine bought one about a month ago. both are very pleased with their 453. i almost want one but im looking at the super x3.
gretchensteele 10-04-2007, 07:31 sadly no longer able to use a shot gun..plastic surgeon said the kick would wreck her fine reconstruction work...:(
Your kidding me? Really G-- umm...Ill pm ya.....
lifestudent55 10-04-2007, 11:07 Yeah, wouldn't want to mess that up.
I may have to get something light without much kick for Mrs Life. She's wanting to learn to hunt now, but I think she'd flinch a bit with the 12 gauge. Maybe start her out on a .22 to get used to shooting.
I have a SBE that I use for waterfowl and a Berretta 390 for birds. I was looking at getting a new o/u for upland, but my wife wants a new 20 guage so I think to keep her interested I will look for a Berretta 20 for her.

Ya like he said, I am very pleased with my spr453. There is a video on youtube about the gun that sold me on it. It did great for dove season even though i wasn't used to trying to hit somethign that small and that quick. I will be ordering the Kicks High flyer full choke hopefully this week. ONly bad thing about the gun is that not to many companies make chokes for the truchoke system that spartan uses. I would like a patternmaster but the kicks is just as good, that and duck commander used kicks (even if he does get paid to) its good enough for me.
I hunt deer with my trusty ol; H&R (New Egland Arms) single shot B/B 3" Mag, with rottwiel mag gold slugs... THE "old mule" as some come to know it, (like the wife):)
I think smokey's pullin our leg on the spelling and puncuation!
I think he's pulling your leg on his whole persona.
lifestudent55 10-13-2007, 12:46 I think he's pulling your leg on his whole persona.
I think you're right. He acts big and tough, but I hear he's a real marshmallow.
Randyman 03-26-2008, 10:40 Still using my trusty, 25 year old Remington Wingmaster 12ga.! :D
lifestudent55 03-26-2008, 12:10 That's about how old mine is too Randyman. Nice shotguns.
wolfgang 03-26-2008, 12:24 Browning 12 ga BPS 26" barrel shooting Remington S Mag 2-3/4" rifled slugs. Found out that at 30-40 yards the bead is with in 3 inches of where the slug will hit. I want to get a 870 Express Slug gun 12 ga has a nice 23" rifled cantilever barrel, only thing is it wouldn't be any good for bird even if the barrel fits the stock is for use with optic. Also, I want to get a Remington SPR453 (Baikal MP-153) for bird hunting and I'll probably end up with the SPR453 by the end of the year over the 870 with how much more we bird hunt.
Birdhunter1 03-26-2008, 13:16 Wolf if you are just wanting the 870 as a slug gun and for nothing else then save your self a $100 or so and get an H&R slug gun and spend the extra $100 on top quality glass. Shoots just as good if not better and costs less.
DetectDave 03-26-2008, 13:18 I'm w/ Bird on that one.
Birdhunter1 03-26-2008, 15:30 Unless you've alredy got an 870, then it would be cheaper to scope and barrel it. But a dedicated slug gun would be better since then it'd never have to come apart once sighted in and then rezero'd so many times.
wolfgang 03-27-2008, 16:45 Unless you've alredy got an 870, then it would be cheaper to scope and barrel it. But a dedicated slug gun would be better since then it'd never have to come apart once sighted in and then rezero'd so many times.
Exactly why I want to get a deer gun, that and I want to get a SPR453 for a bird gun.
Bennelli SBE 3.5"for Waterfowl, but I only used 3" loads- I don't hunt waterfowl any more(need to consider selling that gun).
Remington Special purpose w/Super full turk choke for Turkey.
Remington 870 express magnum w/Scope & slug barrel for Deer.
Browning Citori lighting 3" for Doves,Quail, Pheasant, Skeet.
Remington 870 wingmaster 3" for Trap.
Birdhunter1 03-27-2008, 18:58 Wolf I have a Hastings paradox 3" 12 gauge barrel, fully rifled, and a separate scope mount and scope I'd be willing to sell. You could find a used 870 and put this on it and have one heck of a set up. I've considered it but if you would want it I'd sell it to ya and get an H&R next time I decide to deer hunt.
Bird, if he don't want it, PM me a price. :D
new browning silver hunter 3" 12 gage and an 25 year old 870 wingmaster. browning is like a cadillac and 870 like a good old pickup truck no comparison the autoloader is so much smoother shooting with much less recoil to get back on target quicker just a little more time to take care of it. Don't think I'll ever go back to a pump gun. That's comin from a guy who defended them for years. Allways said I could shoot just as fast w a pump. The auto is like butter!!!!!
I got it as a wedding gift this year from the wife and used it for dove and duck season and it performed great. I use it for trap league and it performs great but I don't. I also use it for deer hunting with the slug barrel I bought with it. I plan on taking it out this weekend for turkey. It is a great gun because it handles all of the loads great.
