BuckyT, that one looks just like one of our cats. Then again, that's your point, isn't it?

We have a "White Panther," 18 yrs old, begs for Imo's chicken wings when you are eating them.. Must have got a taste for them when he was a feral panther before we tamed him..

We had a spotted black & white panther one time that would only eat white chicken meat or spaghetti with meat sauce... She was a firebrand who preferred solitude and a big brush pile down in the woods...

That link makes me feel a lot better. When I first moved up here little over three yrs. ago I was sitting out front one afternoon about 3:00 when a man a woman pulled up to me from across the road. They said "We just saw a mountain lion walk across the highway!" (hwy # 1 in south Gallatin, Co.) They both looked to me like they had seen a ghost and then they drove back up to # 1..about 50yds. from where I live, and stopped to look across the hwy trying to see it again.

I wish now I'd have ask them if it was black or what color, because very soon after that archery season opened and I saw two real dark or black cat like animals come up from behind me up a drainage.

I was hunting out of friends old ladder stand along a ridge on the same creek the couple said the mountain lion came from when it crossed the road.

It was getting late in the afternoon when I saw movement about 75yds. from me. A little better look and thought it was deer coming up the drainage. Then they moved into more open spot and I realized they were black. Having just moved up here from Fl. my first thought was hogs, but I said to myself "They don't have hogs up ;here". They got to about 50yds. and I saw long tails on them and I figured they must be black labs or some type of big black dogs from around the area. However, when they stopped out about 50yds. and just kind of milled around not feeding they didn't act like a dog. The thing I noticed most is the short haired long tails and the way they would twitch and whip them around instead of waging like a dog would.

Anyway, it was getting dark fast and didn't take my mind long to decide whatever they were I didn't like the idea of sitting up there and letting them come on out and get between me and my house and then me having to walk back home towards them along the same creek that couple said a mountain lion had come from and having to do it in the dark with a bow and arrow.

I can't swear to it, but it seems like when I was coming down the ladder I may have said in a loud voice...”You better get out of here!” and seems like I may have told them that a couple more times as I was long stepping it out of there.

I've never seen a track, cougar, mountain lion, black jaguar, big black dogs or any other dogs back in there since. But I know one thing I've been messing around in the woods, hunting, etc. for 60yrs and could care less if anyone believes me or not, but I saw what I just described and if it weren't' for them being black would have no problem “knowing they were cougars. I've just aways had a problem with all the black panther sightings. I didn't think cougars came in black, but knew jaguars did. That's why the link made me feel better. I guarantee one thing, there's not a time I hunt back in there and that's my main area, (and that's a lot) that I don't think about cougars every time going and coming in the dark, and especially when I shine two big eyes up ahead.
