i would like to explain an experience i had at kincaid last week and see if i am wrong in my way of thinking.i am ready to put my boat on the trailer i pull up to the dock drop my dad off to go get the truck.then i back away to wait.while i am waiting this young family and another couple pull up, back down to the ramp get out and start getting their boat ready to launch.then after getting it ready to launch they finally start to back into the water.instead of getting in the boat with the rest of the family the guy stands on the dock with a rope when the boat comes off and the trailer is pulling out he pulls it up to the dock, blocking the ramp even longer. then starts putting the top up on it and waiting for his buddy to park the truck.well i am getting pretty hot by this time and i pull up and ask if they could move out of the way so i could put my boat on the trailer.he says something smart,i say what did you say?his wife says we are waiting on someone else we will move when he gets down here. i say that is not the place to wait.you should wait out here or at the other set of docks.then the kid yells(whith kids in the boat).i don't even have the m...fer started yet.i say exactly that's what i'm saying.instinct says pull up and stomp his guts out but i let it go.finally his buddy strolls down gets in and they pull away from the ramp.his wife says have a nice day he gives me the stink eye.this whole time (15-20 min) there are a couple of guys trying to get their boat on the trailer blocking the other lane.i can tolerate this because they are actually doing something.i think they had just bought the boat il. truck plates and fl. boat reg. numbers.now,to me it makes more sense to get your boat ready before you back down to the ramp.back down pull off and out of the way to wait and not block the ramp.i also understand not everyone is as fluid in launching and trailering as others and you have to learn somehow.would some folks please share their thoughts and suggestions.maybe i am to impatient but that seems rude and inconsiderate. especially at noon on sat.

Your thinking is correct but this is everyday at every boat ramp on earth. I agree with you totally but there will always be that guy.

I'm with ya too. Do the best you can to get your boat in, but when people are waiting on you, you need to do everything in your power to get out of the way and keep the flow going.

Ive had that happen on the mo side in alton. we kinda forced the issue as he had a real nice boat, and we had a jon boat. people don't get it as get your boat ready to go BEFORE you enter the water. put in and get out of the way

Good times can be had just watching people launch and load.. People are sooo self centered and inconsiderate, it actually gets comical.. Perhaps not as funny when its over 90 and you are ready to get back in the air..

One thing I like about the ramps at the resort on Rend Lake is that there are slips you can pull into while waiting for someone to park their truck. There are times when the only one who is familiar with operating the boat is also the one parking the truck. Still, there is no cause for someone smarting off. There are a lot of novices and we have to allow them to learn. Still, they should do their prepping before getting onto the ramp.

I always wonder why no one ever posts the "Unwritten rules of the boat ramp" prepare your boat before you even get near the ramp. get it in the water and get out of the way. I love going down to the marina on a busy weekend about 5ish and watch the mayhem...

Couple weeks back some dude and his 20' shiny speed boat revved it up to push it on the trailer VRROOOOM!!! I was next to him and did the same but Ol Ugly just has a 40HP and was more like whirrrr.... Dude says Eh, that'll never sound like this one." Whatever, we pull out and pass him with his towels and brush getting ready to clean it up... I says " have fun wiping her down!" and just go home... big fancy boat and you need to spend another 1/2 hour cleaning it when your done... blech...

I've fished Kinkaid twice, but I'm never going there again... About two years ago I went to Kinkaid to do some muskie fishing. This was in October on a weekday and I got to the lake early in the morning. I have a 14' jon boat and was just starting down the launch when some guys with a big bass boat pull in front of me, stop and start preparing their boat for launch. At first I didn't mind too much, but after about 15 minuets of waiting for them, I asked them if they could speed it up, and they laughed at me. Finally, they launch and I'm able to get out on the lake. Guess because I had a little jon boat and they had a big expensive bass boat that I wasn't as important and didn't matter.
This kind of behavior continued while I was fishing. I had many boats cut right in front of me while I was casting my lures... Had one guy that was trolling the shoreline go through a bunch of weeds right where I was fishing. I kept having to find new locations to get away from these selfish, dim witted morons who think they own the lake... After about 4 hours, I finally find a spot I'm able to fish, and I caught a small muskie. Unfortunately, other people saw that I caught something and race over to where I'm fishing (good grief). One guy even follows me around. After that, I said the hell with this and left. So much for a nice relaxing day on the water!!!
I don't care how good the muskie fishing is at Knikaid, I would rather fish in the toilet than put up with all that nonsense.

Its the society we live in I guess. All about "me" anymore. I have the same problem going duck hunting. Anymore I just try to wait to be the last one to put in and the last one to take out. A whole lot easier on the nerves. If you think the problem is bad at the fishing docks try it sometime @30 degrees in the dark @05:30 and their hungover !! Like I said - last one in - last one out.

A problem we've had numerous times at Rend is obliviots who feel they have to buzz people who are trying to fish with their deep hulled boats towing tubes. Now our pontoon isn't small, but when you get a 22' x 8' boat tipping that much, it's time to knock it off.

i actually watched a guy...after he finally got his boat on the trailer, tell his buddy to pull out.his buddy starts pulling out, but he didn't trim his motor up.the skag is dragging the concrete so he yells telling his buddy to stop and back up.when his buddy backs it back down then he trims it up and tells his buddy to pull it back out.you think it is noisy going forward, you should hear it backing up. maybe people should have to take a class and get a drivers license for watercraft.

I don't blame you one bit for being severely PO'd about that....

I think if I were in your shoes, the kids in the a hole's boat would have been the only thing from keeping me from going insane on that guy..............

I've done what that guy did to a point. There is a boat hovering in the water waiting on somebody to go get the truck, I've pulled up, got the boat in the water, my partner or I backs boat off trailer, and get's out of the way, one of us pulls trailer out of water and parks it in designated parking spot.

After getting truck parked, one of us walks down to dock, the other pulls boat up to dock, step on boat, and off we go. And the guy that was hovering waiting for his trailer to get there is loading up and getting out of the water.

That's how you do it the proper way. Nobody is put out and everybody is happy.

Earlier this summer, I pulled up to the dock and noticed one of my tires on my trailer was flat...................... Some piece of garbage, blankety, blank, blank, double freaking blank, stole the valve stem off of it...............

It was parked in the correct area and there was nobody there when we arrived early that morning... Vandalism or somebody needed a valve stem pretty bad... Who knows.........:rolleyes::mad:

I had a guy pull his truck up and block the end of the ramp. He reaches in the back and pulls out a couple of rods and starts to walk away. ??? I was really P.O.ed to think that he would be that inconsiderate so I hurried up and started backing for the ramp. When he looked back he could see his truck was about to get a trailer imprint. He ran back yelling "WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA!" Then he moved his truck.
And as he walked away he says "You'll get the hang of it." :D Yep! Not "I'm sorry I was so inconsiderate. I couldn't park another 100 yards away where there is single vehicle parking spots."

The lake is full of idiots like this. Try spider-rigging or pullin cranks in a 14.5' boat. They just wave as they go by

I've had them buzz me when I was in smaller boats too. There have been many times that I've been on the verge of calling the lake police to see if they could give them a lesson in manners and water safety.

Not just fishermen waterfowlers can be even worse. Since day one I was taught about boat ramp ediquette. Rule 1 don't block ramp useless ready to lauch. One of the worse places I have seen is horseshoe in granite. That ramp is a cluster every morning. Think it might be the fumes from the refineries.
My favorite ramp adventure came during a late january goose hunt. We had been the only party out of this ramp for a few days in a row. If had been very cold so there was just a boat lane for a couple hundred yards until you reached open water. We had a large group that day so we had 2 boats we pull into the parking lot only ones there and prepare the boats for launch away from the ramps. Boats ready to go and as I hop into my truck to pull to the ramp truck and boat pass me block the ramp and get there stuff together. Unpleasent words were exchanged you can only imagine. They think they got us good and head to the "hot spot" were we had been killin then for a few days. well they were getting pretty burnt out on that spot and we knew it had not even planned to hunt the "hot spot" that day. Long story short by 10am we had a full 5 man limit they had not fired a shot and they got to watch the show. Back at the boat ramp we cut the feet off all ten geese and stuck them in various places on the DB truck(under the wipers, thru the attena, in door handle,) with a bill for admission to the goose killing show we let him watch. Karma is a what?

That was the first thing I told my wife when we got our boat, we get it ready to launch up in the parking lot then I back it down to the waters edge, I get in the boat and she backs it the rest of the way in. I have it started by the time the boat has enough water under it and I wave her to stop backing. When the motor shows it's going to cooperate I wave her to go on up and park it (2-3 minutes maybe...?).
I told my wife 2 things will test a marriage, boat ramps and canoe trips, if you survive one or both I think you'll (we) make it!

That's the truth! Camping during extreme thunderstorms will give a good test too, especially when the wind blows the rain under the rain fly.
