I saw an article in the Southern about this, kind of an annual community help cleanup of the lake. Doe anybody here participate? I dont know what my wife has planned for me this weekend yet, but thought maybe I would slide on down and pitch in if I can get away.

I seen it out on the board at the visitors center on 148...we have that down here too but we also have assoications and such down here.....don't know how crab does it....
Catching any fish at Cedar, I told Gretchen we are gonna have to get down there sometime......she don't have any pics of that lake........I think is is gorgeous down there.....and usually peaceful......I have a couple pics from there I think of me and my hub while I was prego with #1 ....I have to see if I can find em..........
Are you settled in for good now in C-dale?

Yes, bam, barring anymore unforeseen disasters, I should be getting on top of things now. Seeing a guy in Murphysboro this morning about a sales job, sounding good at this point, so hopefully it will come together for me.

It's time to make the donuts....

Hey donut man, sounds like you're diving right into the community. That's terrific. How do you and your wife like Carbondale?

In the second picture the top crappie could eat the bottom one for a snack.

I doubt we'd be able to get our pontoon under that bridge without undoing a bunch of bolts which I'm not gonna do.

BAM
09-28-2007, 22:33
Yea, they were good size life.......
I think you would be able to get it under there.......Lots of folks do....B is standing in the boat and he's on top on the deck and he's 6'4 and he is still reaching for the bridge...lol.......I couldn't reach it if I tried..
Unless it is a really tall pontoon..

The top doesn't fold down on ours. I'd probably at least have to drop the masthead light. Is there as much boat traffic there as the Gun Creek bridge at Rend?

BAM
09-28-2007, 22:40
Yea, you might although with no water lately you might not.......lol.....IDK to be honest Life........I would say Rend has more though with all the boats that I see on the water.......you know Im a south sider up there........lol.....

lifestudent55

Gun Creek is straight north from where you usually camp at South Marcum, isn't it?

BAM
09-28-2007, 22:44
Yup up by wanye fitsgerald, over by "the wall" ......
You usually camp at wanye don't ya? the state side?

lifestudent55
09-28-2007, 23:58
Yep. We'll probably try South Marcum next time though. It's closer to where we like to fish.

We put out some trot lines a few years back and did awesome......We had cats everywhere and was giving them away.......we also had em for dinner too.....lol......anyway, yea, the south side is nice..it is federal....where as the north side is state......http://www.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDetails.do?subTabIndex=0&agency=nrrs&parkCode=smar
there's a link....
Do you reserve before hand or not? If you do I can pm ya some good sites.....by the way, those thread did we hijack?

The state side doesn't take advance reservations. How far ahead of time do you have to reserve for a holiday weekend? We went about 3 years ago for July 4 and ended up at a private campsite because all the fed and state campsites were full. They said folks were 'camped out' for almost 2 weeks just to hold a spot for the 4th.

BAM
09-29-2007, 00:50
Yup, it's awful on the four up there......we stayed until like 1 week before the fourth this year.....we had been there forever and it was so nice....and quiet and then all of sudden whamo.......folks started coming in left and right....they allready got some spots reserved for next year too........lol....you can reserver for up to 365 days in adv.
Good thing is 2 on the coves are NOT reservable in south marcum......still gives folks some options......
One of the guys(wife's ) that b works with pulled up and wanted our spot.....she didn't even know it was us camping there........so we told em when we were gonna be leaving and the were there bright and early the next morning! Too bad we were ready to pull out! lol....
We don't even mess with Rend durning the fourth anymore...the boat dock and ramp down here has a chain on it....other folks that aian't in the assoication can't use it so it isn't that hard to get on our lake durning the fourth....or one year I just stayed home and watched em on the front porch....lol......it is so much prettier on the water for some reason.......

They do get a little more roudy up there too during the holidays and weekends, seems like the 18-21 year olds like to camp in the tent areas and party, lots more traffic.....the showers and bathrooms are full too.......just things I don't like to deal with when I got the little ones running around....lol

We took the boat to Carlyle this year for the Saturday before the 4th. I joked with my wife about it being amateur weekend because of so many people who didn't know how to operate a boat or PWC being out on the water. I was surprised there weren't a lot of accidents from people being stupid. As you pointed out, the fireworks were awesome from on the water. We were where we could see the rockets launch.

BAM
09-29-2007, 01:15
I know it is so scary on those weekends.....I have seen alot of funny stuff happen at the boat ramps and on water....lol....I was even gonna ask this one guy if I could just back his boat in after he ran in into the side of the dock twice ....
I guess it aian't such a bad thing we had boat patrol here........

Yea, we usually try to get close to the elks so we can see everything...of course that's where I like to snap my pics too......oh and then we got some millionaire dude that puts on a show right across the way at the same time.....He does put on one heck of a show too!
You will see the little blinking lights everywhere down here though.....they write lots of tickets durning the fourth....people just doing crazy stuff......

I think you and I have officially hijacked this thread.

We saw at least one boat stopped by the water patrol at Carlyle while waiting for the fireworks. He didn't have his lights on while moving after it got dark.

Yea, sorry DONUT MAN! NO MORE Hijacking tonight life! lol

Yes!!! now you really got me thinking I need to be down there! How easy is it to get at them from shore, being my wife talked me into selling my boat before I came down!

BAM
09-29-2007, 10:19
It don't matter, from shore or boat.....they are still in the water regardless....lol.......
Actually I think someone on here was asking to see if anyone wanted to go down there.....
It aian't that hard to get to it..........we have parked on the side of the road there and walked down........youll notice other folks doing that too now.....

here's the other thread about the crappies.....good luck!
