We went camping at Wayne Fitzgerrell state park this weekend. All went well Friday night and Saturday. Saturday night though, all heck broke loose. It rained so hard that it came through the tent. I've done a lot of camping over the years, but that's the first time I ever had that happen. It was raining inside the tent.

It was a mistake to put our tent here, though we didn't realize it at the time. All these pictures were taken this morning after the rain abated.

Note the water flowing across the road. Yeah, our tent was right in its path.

This is at the intersection of Wayne Fitzgerrell Rd. and the road going back to the Class A campsites.

When we got up this morning everything was wet and it was still raining too hard to cook breakfast. Good thing we had ponchos in the truck. I ran to the truck and got mine on, then brought Fishkiller's poncho to her.

Wildlife was out and about this weekend. If you look closely you can see a ringneck pheasant in this photo.

On the plus side, we did find a diner in Benton that serves a real good breakfast at a good price. You can find my write-up about the Cozy Table under the places to eat thread. Also, the rain stopped by the time we got back so we were able to break camp. I have to set up the tent and screen room for a few days so they'll dry out now, but at least it wasn't raining while we broke camp and packed everything.

Not as bad as the time out camping with the Boy Scouts in Virginia and the Scoutmaster's tent got underway out onto the lake during a real bad rain storm. Might I suggest a re-application of a water repellent on your tent before you repack it. The big question is, Did you have a good time over-all? If the answer is yes, then it was a good weekend out away from the house. And it looks like you got some nice shots and the new diner. So, I'm thinking you had a good weekend.

Aside from our little game of fear factor last night, we had a great time.

Yeah it was. My wife couldn't sleep at all because the tent walls kept moving and the water kept dripping on us.

I was at Gun Creek over the weekend. Only difference was I was in my camper. I put the awning away and secured all loose items before bed. I could feel the camper shake pretty good, never woke the kids though. I was thinking about all the people in tents while riding it out.
It was a pretty good light show in the sky all night.

Nothing worse then a wet night in a tent.

Going there next weekend? Heard there is a BBQ competition going on.

I was at the primitive camping section this weekend. My tent failed as well. 8 hours of torrential rain and lighting was no fun.

I was finally able to set the tent up tonight so it can air out. I'll set up the screen room in the morning when I can see better what I'm doing. The Yukon isn't smelling too sweet right now because of carrying a wet tent and other equipment home in it and not getting the tent out till less than an hour ago.
