Well, I thought popcorn sounded good for a snack, so I put some grease in the pan and set it on low for 5 mins. Added the kernals, white only ! lol and then put on the lid.... but guess what between trying to give baths and laundry and pick up and pictures and silo and the dog and and and...I forgot to set the timer....So Im in the front room folding some laundry and smell someting strange...turn around and see smoke...lovely.......:D
Then I went into the darn kitchen and you should have seen the pan and the smoke......Yikes!
Anyway, I ran with it outside, I can remember my mother doing this before and threw out the old and scrubbed the pot up and cooking some more now...lol>.......YIKES> better go check again! lmao!

You got one of those stoves with the glass top Bambam? I wouldn't get one because I use cast iron so much and you're not supposed to use cast iron with them.

Another trick instead of fanning the smoke detector is to know how to pull it down and disconnect the battery quickly. I know this from doing a lot of high temp pan searing of animal products.

Did you set up exhaust fans at your doors? That'll help. That's what the fire dept did when I was in Japan and the ex turned a burner on high instead of off before leaving the apartment. That time the fire alarm didn't come on till after I got home and opened doors to air the place out.

My grandma was Amish. What's the difference between Amish white popcorn and regular white popcorn? (About $1 a pound I'd wager.)

One Sunday morning a couple months ago the fire alarm went off in our church...right in the middle of the service. Come to find out the youth pastor was cooking popcorn for the senior high class (we have classes during 2 of our services) and left it in the microwave too long. Our pastor kept a cool head and waited till he found out what set off the alarm before doing anything, and since it wasn't a real fire everything pretty much went on except with a few minutes delay while the FVH fire dept made sure everything was OK.

You only kept one cast iron pan? I try and I try to impart a small amount of wisdom, but do today's kids listen? No.... They want to have that nice pretty glass stove top instead of being able to cook good. (Go ahead and tell my grammar teacher about that one...if she's still around. ;) )

And the glass top stove was the only one you could find? I'm sure if you'd listened to Gretchen she'd have told you to get something you could still used your cast iron pans on. :D

Naw, there were others but we decided on this one......I didnt even know about not being able to use the cast iron then though and then I started reading and it says not to you alot of stuff but i do.....oh well....Like even them pans with the copper ring on the bottom and all.......The cast Irons are really heavy for me too now for some reason......
I do have a pizza stone does that count LIFE?
I use it all the time including today! I luv it........
