Got up early this morning went and picked up my buddy and went to starved rock to do a little sauger fishing. We have a tournament on sat so we wanted to do a little prefishing. Morning went real good. The boat run good and the fish were biting good.Caught 8 real nice saugers. Smallest one was about 16". Did'nt take the camera so I have no pics. (sorry). Now that was the good part of the day. Now for the bad part. I had a St. croix legend elite rod. My favorite rod out of all the rods that I own. I got a snag and pop the line like you would normally do and the rod snap in half. I kinda had a sick feeling come over me and just stared at it. A moment later I hear my buddy say(you handle that real well). The only way I can think to make this better is to get right back out there and do a little more fishing tomorrow.
Sounds like a good day except for breaking your favorite rod...
Send it back to St. Croix. I've had great customer service from them...
definitely send it back. I almost only use Fenwick rods and most of their rods come with lifetime replacement and I believe St. Croix's upper end rods do too. If not then I would switch to a different brand, these things are too dad gum expensive to replace for something like that.

If we only had a video camera, I was goofing around with my friend, fishing at cedar lake a few years ago, did the ugly stick test where you bend the tip past the base, and snap. I just looked at it while my friend laughed his rear off. Oh well, had a good day fishing though.

It was about 6 yrs old, it was expensive but it had alot of miles on it. I more than got my money back in all the good times I had. I am going to send it back. I sent one back once before and it cost shipping plus a 25 dollar repair fee. It was'nt the elite and I do think this one is lifetime guaranteed.
Just wondering which tournament you fished and how you did? I read that the fishing has been pretty good on the IL this spring and there have been a lot of good catches so far in the tournaments. I haven't had a chance to fish for sauger yet this year down here.

Fished the carpenters tournament. Caught a lot of fish. placed seventh and got a little bit of money back. Had a lot of fun. There was only a 1 1/4lb between 10th place and 1st. was alot of fish caught. St. croix did replace my rod. It cost me 20.00 for shipping and handling. That made my day.
Good to hear St Croix did you right and the fish were bitin... That is why it is worth it to buy a good rod...
