I hate cicada shells. Hate them. Hate them! And I usually knock them on the ground and grind them into dust whenever I see them. But this year there are so many of them, and I thought this one might make a good picture. The second pic especially creeps me out -where you can see the eye capsules and the split down the back. Ugh!

I used to collect them when I was a young'un spending the summer on my grandparents' farm in southern Indiana.

I had a grade school friend who used to collect them and arrange them in domestic tableaux -freaked me out from a very early age, which, I figured, is why I loathe them so.

My kids collect em too life.....and bring em in and all....aian't no telling what Ill find sometimes.....lol.

I'm glad y'all are joking, because I'm very gullible and would've believed it. And, according to Wikipedia, people do actually eat them. The females are preferred because they're meatier.

Some people do eat them, especially in Asia. My wife used to eat grasshoppers, but with insecticides and all it isn't safe to anymore.

I am reasonably certain that my little buddies have probably tried them in Ranch dip...those two will dare each other into anything...
