We've got some of those in the woods behind us too. I saw one swoop slow across the front yard once. They're beautiful. I was surprised how big they are.

Piliated woodpeckers are a sign your forest is in good shape and balance. They're a touchy creature.

Fun you are lucky to have them around...they are magnificent to watch and hear aren't they? Your kids are lucky to have you..think of all the things they get to see and hear and do that most kids never even know about... :)

Fun to hear? Yeah. The first time I heard one it reminded me of the old Tarzan movies.

I seen this one down at good ol Randolph Co Lake..But I have seen them in the woods behind my house. Man they are hard to get picz of cause they move arund so much.

Why? what's the deal with that. We have em down here and I got pics but deleted em cause they were so crappy and I was down by shawnee in the boat when I got some and the boat was all shakin as well but not the ivory ones.

The ivory billed are supposed to be extinct, but some people in the sasquatch circa keep saying they have recordings of them.

When a piliated pecker is pecking it sounds like a hatchet, and the chunks of wood they displace could be mistaken for mulch.

they say the have been seeing them in the Big Woods down in southern Arkansas...anything is possible I guess..you know the ol Charlie Daniels song...."well I wouldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself..."
