Wow, thats officially insane! Where are all of our lobbyeist (NRA etc) that we pay all those dues and donate money too? How did a crack pot idea like this even get started? How did this entire peice of legislation make it through two votes and then signed into law without making national news? Again, I have to ask, where the hell is the NRA with all that money we, as sportsmen and women have given to them? They are suppose to be at least fighting this sort of thing...are they not?

Another thing I would like to know about it when they say local gov has control do they mean each county or the 5 regions ?

Not that it makes much difference but was wondering.

The NRA/ISRA has it's hands full with all the anti-gun bills floating around in this state all the time. I'm sure there wasn't a whole lot they could do with this one.

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=3425&GAID=9&DocTypeID=HB&LegID=32294&SessionID=51&GA=95

This new law looks fairly harmless on it's face. It gives a local government (municipality, etc..) the ability to control deer herds using something besides hunting only after it has conducted four years of research on the deer population.

So, some city that can't really have an effective deer hunting season due to safety and/or opposition to hunting could come up with some other way to get the population under control. The plan must be approved by the DNR. All the costs would be to the local government controlling the deer. (somebodies tax dollars at work)

On it's own, it's not a huge deal. It's the slippery slope that's dangerous.

Don't misunderstand my position.. I whole-heartedly oppose this. Hunting and sharp shooting are the best and cheapest way to keep deer populations under control.

Flat, each municipality (city/town) is how I read it. USSportmen.org makes it sound more ominus than it reads. BUT it is a step in the way wrong direction.

Does this mean the laws governing hunting are to be set by the local govmnt, and I don't have to send my money to Springfield for a permit? Are the local govmnts going to set hunting dates and hours? If the Mayor says I can go shoot as many deer as I want in the city park is it OK? I dont really know what it means to give control over to the local govmnts. Which local govmnt? I must be missing something here. Somebody help me.

You will get better results on a state by state basis if you keep your monies more local than the NRA, say like ISRA, the Focus only on the state issues, Yes the NRA helps them but on limited issues. And when they send them reminders on calling the reps and other people, or writing a letter, well that is the way of them asking for extra help. It takes more than just a donation to an organization, and the Biggest line of crap is when the officials WE vote in to office, step out of line, then WE need to let them know about it. As far as how does it not make the news, that is why they slip and slide this crap on the table during a time when the Officials are trying to get a Budget to "KEEP" the state running, and when it is time for "summer vacation" you better know that all types of these B.S. bills will get the "Last Minute" vote so our fearless leaders can go play golf! And Yes the "Slippery Slope" is where all hell is gonna break loose. If you want to know who voted for what just look them up and it will show you every vote they have put down, Problem is, THEY DON"T Read half the items they are voting on.

My big question is one that's already been asked. How did they slip this through both the house and senate, then to our firearm hating quasi-governor without the public finding out? Who the **** voted for these guys? We need to rally the troops and vote the bastidges into the unemployment line.
